I have a traditional pony coloured stallion that I wish to show with. He is of unrecorded breeding. Does anyone know if you are allowed to show coloured stallions under saddle if they are not graded? I think that I can't have him graded with CHAPS with no breeding :'(but what about showing him in BSPA classes or at county shows? I really don't want to geld him but if I'm not allowed to show him then the poor chap may have to get the chop!!!!

Try grading him take him to one of the evaluations, this will give you an insight into what goes on in the gradings ;D But if he is not graded with either society you cannot show him if the classes are affiliated to chaps or bspa....and most shows are one or the other!

as far as i am aware:
with chaps if he has unknown breeding he needs to have gained a first premium at a youngstock evaluation before he can be put forward for grading.
with bspa i dont think they are bothered. you can just put him forward with unknown breeding.
with either society you cannot show a stallion 4yrs or over in hand or under saddle, under wither society unless they are graded and you have to carry a stallion id card at all times.
e mail the societies, they are very helpful

so can I show him in CHAPS classes as a three year old without any grading? do BSPA do passports for coloureds the same way that CHAPS do?

Traditionals can be graded without verified breeding with BSPA. To show a stallion with these societies, it must be graded.
If you are not planning to breed, it may be easier to have him gelded for showing.
BSPA are having a grading at Manor Farm on 14 November, why not give them a call, I have found them very approachable and helpful.

yes you can show him in hand in chaps classes as a 3 yr old.
come jan 1st next year you cant show him in hand or under saddle with either society until he is graded as he will then be classed as 4 (assuming he is 4 next year)
