Its illegal to stand in the back with them i made that mistake with my foal the first time he travelled.
Have you tried travelling him with another horse? what a shame its only a part of travelling. Does he not bother with eating his hay/haylage.
My mare used to stomp out with her front legs all the time, the more we took her out the more she quietened down. could you take him on some short trips and back home again.

my friend had a mare that banged and generally naughty in the wagon we simply sat in the back with door open so she could see us and we just ignored her, its hard i know, but she had to get used to it, shes good now, she had a net up etc...

Have you tried to travel him loose we used to have a section A, which would rear and launch over the front partition, in the end we gave her a double partition and let her loose, never moved when travelling and at shows (when she was at her worse)....

problem sloved, we figured he was really struggling with his balance so we took a chance and blind folded him, and he never moved a muscle, his legs locked and travelled quiet as a lamb, we figure when hes looking out of the windows hes not consentrating on standing up, but blind folded he can!! very special pony

our pony gets really sweaty when travelled, we now give him a small dose of oxyshot before we set off, it has so far seemed to work as he isn't as wet when we arrive at the show, maybe something like this would calm your pony a little

Do you always travel him in the same part of the lorry? I have one who can't travel if she is in the first position (nearest the living area) but is fine in the middle or back positions. I think her problem is that she struggles to balance if she has a solid partition/wall on her right side - she has to travel in the left side of our trailer too.
