Dear fuhd I can see this would cause confusion if it was correct ! The Showing Register www.theshowingregister.co.uk has an ING the other two are plain 'show'. I believe we have totally different functions although all have a connection with ' showing' I can state that The Showing Register has no connection in any way with the other two. We are trying to avoid the use of the shortened version TSR only using it on our own web site to avoid impinging on something already in use. Best wishes Wendy

HI, I've been alerted to your thread. The first two websites you mention are owned by me - www.theshowregister.com and www.theshowregister.co.uk (both redirect to the one website - http://www.theshowregister.com) I can understand where the confusion has come from, what with the showING register recently setting themselves up whilst a lot of people have been using/aware of my website for the past few years, and I have been getting a few emails from people mistakenly thinking (as I can easily appreciate how they would) that the newly formed showing register is something to do with me. It is not! However, as imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, it is nice to know that my efforts of building up the awareness of the show register is being used by this new (completely unconnected to me) website. Perhaps they would like to compensate me for making their job a little easier....

It would have made life less confusing for them to have chosen an independent name really, I had assumed you were all related until I read on here that you're not.

I think, when The Showing Register (the new one) was formed it was suggested by a few people that they should perhaps consider a different name as there might be some confusion - requests fell on deaf ears and now .................. there is confusion!!

As the owner of The Show Ring website and forum, I would also like to respond. Our forum (which does exactly what it says on the tin!) has been running for some 10 years now and has paying members from around the world. We are a not for profit website, so all the money recieved goes to charity and we have given thousands away over the years we have been running. It is a close knit community and we are now in our 8th year of running our Show Ring Camp - this is a four day residential training clinic (again, not for profit - how refreshing I hear you say ) With instructors including many of the great and good within showing (the usual suspects as well as some who NEVER usually attend clinics of this sort) it is a fab four days. It has also single handedly increased the membership of the sidesaddle organisation (as one of the days is devoted to sidesaddle) as well as costing our members a fortune kitting themselves out for their new sport! This year we are also having a double box at Olympia on M&M day which should be great fun, and several Christmas dinners across the country. We have a show buddy system - so if ever anyone is short of a groom, they will "find a friend" who comes to help, people have bought and sold horses, helped each other out in times of stress and celebrated when good news is about. Our members including many judges, council members of various societies, "normal" members of societies and people who have a nice horse and want to find out more. Our record of success in SFAS at HOYS is second to none -as is the vocal support when one of our members is competing. And that is not to say we are not pretty successful in the open classes as well ... If a show needs judges or stewards - you can guarantee our members will jump into the breach; our members generally are recognised (if not actually showing their horse) by their show ring clothing (organised by one of our members - again not for profit). We are a group of people who LOVE showing and want to ensure everyone gets as much out of our sport as they can. We are closely linked with The Show Register (NOT The Showing Register) - Faye is one of our longstanding members - and we were both slight bemused at the appearance of another TSR. Lots of our members suggested/requested that the new TSR changed its name to avoid confusion, but apparently since they want to make money out of this enterprise, they had also been prepared to register with Companies House (something I had not felt the need to do). So I can only echo Faye when she suggests that the muddle is a deliberate attempt to gain recognition off the back of two people who have put a lot of effort into making their websites and forums happy, helpful places where noone is trying to make a profit from them. And yes - some compensation for trading off the good name of OUR TSR would be welcome It would be put to good use in benefiting human and equine related charities.

It does seem a little odd that the new Showing Register has called itself such when actually, from what I understand (and it's not terribly clear) it is actually another showing society not a register at all. So the name is actually not very descriptive of what it is or does, as well as being a very similar name to the two other websites mentioned which it is not in partnership with.
All very odd and not very helpful to people in showing who want to understand exactly what this new company is and what they will be doing for showing.

A few of us are getting completely confused.com! And they all have to go onto Horsegossip to promote their sites You are joking, aren't you? The only time I promote TSR on here (note my user name and signature have no advertising on them) is when I open up for people to come to camp - and not even done that for3 or 4 years! TSR has been around WAY longer than HG has in its current form. In fact several of the HG moderators are regular posters on The Show Ring forums! We get our members through word of mouth generally And also if I am putting results on from The Show Ring forums, or other people putting results from there - I always ask that they credit it to our own website. I think that is fair enough!

I am so proud that I am a long standing member of the showring forum they are truly extended family and I would hate to think they would ever be mistaken/tarred with another TSR name. The showring is unique, personal and should never be mistaken with immitations .

Has everyone decided the Showing REGISTER is a bad thing then? Some quite disparaging and slightly rude comments made IMO while people are trying desperately to make themselves seperate from it. I was actually thinking of joining it if it provides a more economical way of doing the HOYS qualifiers

I like the idea of joining it for their home produced rules, but if you want to have a go at qualifying for the RI then you need to join BSPS for the flat classes, PUK for the Jrs and NPS (I think may be out of touch on that one!) for the MM WHP.
So this would add a 4th one to join - along with Equifest and Royal London depending on what you're planing so all in all at the moment it only really saves you money if you only go for the HOYS qualifiers and no other championships apart from the new TSR one, and not for the RI, I think I've got that right - complicated really unless you're in the relatively small proportion of showing folk who are solely aiming for HOYS.

Will have to have a think and do some sums We do want to do the RI junior qualifiers so that means joining PUK, also want to do Equifest and try for the picton final again so will have to join NPS Ooh its complicated and expensive!

Good morning Haggismarmite (love the name !) and Redsky
Thank you for your posts. If you want to do RIHS etc you are covererd for everything with the mainstream societies. We are only offering an alternative for HOYS Q.
The TSR/HOYS Masterclass training pathway is for amateur riders and is great value - if you join for £20 which includes the owner rider and horse or pony you receive £20 back in the form of a £10 free entry at a training show (all over the country in 2013) and a £10 free entry in the Riders Championship at The Showing Register summer show on the 20th 21st July at Arena UK. Check out the web site for more details.
best wishes

I was confused over the three TSRs and did think the Show Register and the Showing Register were the same thing until it was explained on here. However the Showing Register's position on qualifiers is pretty clear, and could definitely help people like us, who aren't interested in qualifications but may like to enter our local county show.
This year for the first time Cerys asked if she could compete at Cheshire County, but I said no as the only FR class there is the HOYS - there is no novice. And I didn't want to chuck her, at 8 years old, into the Novice Smalls class. The HOYS class is expensive in itself - I wish they offered an option to enter without the HOYS levy and without the option to qualify. But then to add the cost of joining one of the three societies or SPSBS, just to be able to enter one class at one show, means it's not doable.
If she feels the same way next year, and wants to enter with Sammy, we will have a much more affordable option. That seems like a positive step for me - I'm sure we're not the only ones who dabble in local showing and would like the opportunity to enter our local County for the experience, with no expectations or desire to go further.

I am fairly sure thsat if someone were to ever bring a legal challenge to the HOYS levy it would not stand up in court!
However as HOYS know no-one will make a challenge for such a small amount as £10.

Well I find all this as clear as mud! You pay then get money/vouchers back so how does it run I can't see it being voluntary or have I missed something? We still need JMB height certificates but the "Register" is not aligned to the JMB. What is it a register of I don't get it. Aw! All the big shows are over that side of the country:-( Equifest, hritage champs, bsps etc We need one in the west! My thought too. I would like to know where all over the country means as well. I assume as is usual it means England and not the provinces?

I am confused. What will happen about the breed societies who currently run their own qualifiers? Horses have to be registered to them and owners and riders have to be society members to compete at HOYS. Plus the societies generate revenue for the classes to be held at HOYS from within the society, cards or indeed private sponsors.

I am new to HG, so please forgive my first post being on a specific subject. I felt I would lke to contribute to this debate. I do not have ponies, nor compete in HOYS Qualifiers on horses at the moment, so no axe to grind.
Specifically to I think that the training opportunities and a chance for a few to participate in the Masterclass will be good for grassroots of showing - espcially for those who do not have training clinics or camps in their area. The two new shows give yet more choices of gala type shows for those in the Midlands.
However, I feel than the continued use of the well established TSR acronym, which is still being used on this board and on Facebook and reference to the "TSR/HOYS" classes is confusing and misleading. It has also diverted discussion and even potential enthusiasm for the venture into an ongoing issue regarding the name and acronym, despite being brought to the attention of the company from day one.
As far as HOYS pony qualfiers for the open classes, until there is a list of qualifying shows who have applied for one, will collect the levies and process the HOYS registraion forms, as agreed with HOYS and the essential rules and administration in place, that is a matter for BSPS and its members, and the sponsors of these classes. For this level of activity, I would have expected memership of The Showing Council and JMB to have been in place. and a statement from GM regarding a new player in running HOYS pony qualfiers.
Mention on FB of the company running horse qualfiers in the future, but not 2013, makes one wonder what CHAPS, SHGB and BSHA admin would do regarding a parallel qualfication route, the allocation of qualifying tickets to the correct horse?
So, to summarise Yes, a training opportunity, addional choice of shows and championships for amatuer home produced.
No to the use of a establised name. It is counterproductive to any new venture to not establish an identifiable image and name.
HOYS Open qualfiers - the existing societies offer far much more than a HOYS class but running qualifiers in tandem sounds like an admin nightmare. (Disqualfications/ objections, passing tickets down the line, across more than on show, which has already occured this year)

Good afternoon everyone
Thank you for all your posts and it is interesting to read your different views. I would like to make a couple of comments.
The Horse of the Year Show allocate the HOYS qualifying classes to whichever shows that they think are suitable and in the case of the pony classes the show can then affiliate to either the NPS,P(UK),BSPS and The Showing Register. Whichever society they affiliate to the members of all the other pony societies can enter without paying additional membership fees.
You have to be a member of one of the above named societies to compete in a HOYS Q pony class but it does not matter which one. I hope that is clearly written I know it is a difficult thing as for so long all the plaited pony classes were BSPS and M and M NPS etc now it is open to all societies who are accredited by HOYS.
The HOYS Q shows schedules wording for 2013 will reflect the addition of The Showing Register.
I think our goals are best expressed by nici #23 earlier on this thread.
best wishes
Wendy
