I might contact a feed company to see if they know!! And yes he certainly is, my poor mother has her head in her hands most of the time I'm riding him! He's a cheeky chap but so worth it, 99% of the time hegood and goes fab! X

Must admit if he was mine I wouldn't feed the cereal based Baileys but stick to fibre and oil feeds as I'm sure I've said above somewhere. I sympathise with your mother having had a daughter keen on eventing, it was dreadful standing watching and listening for mentions of her on the XC.

Oh dear just ordered a bag of this this. I've tried topspec cool balancer and Baileys lite balancer and I swear both these make my boy bright.

Know this is an old thread but out of desperation been googling my feed combinations to see if they've had an adverse affect. I bought a pony in August who was a bit poor and certainly lacking vitamins etc. I rang top spec for advice after having success with the cool conditioning cubes with another horse. They advised balancer and cool conditioning cubes. They were working well and she picked up, perked up and wS doing nicely. 3 weeks ago we had an extreme visit from our hunt who spent a couple of hours in view of my stables, galloping up and down the lane. This upset her terribly and since then she has been upset every day at the tiniest of noises and very fretful, no manners and silly. After 3 weeks I thought she should have settled!! They were round again today and we are back to squAre one. Tucked up, upset and generally loopy. They were at least a mile away today but she's so sensitive to it. I've blamed the hunt BUT am beginning to wonder if the balancer isn't helping ? She's gleaming from inside out, gets lots of turnout, she has no winter coat to speak of. A friend recommended fibre beet which she loves and fills her up, she was turning her nose up at hay which she ate happily before.
Sorry to be so long-winded. Well done for getting this far! Have decided to knock balancer on the head to see if there is any difference. Anyone else had any recent experiences with this? She is a level headed sweet pony but now!

I've always fed TS balancers and their grain free conditioning cubes and never had any "fizzy" problems.
As for the previous poster, give her a spell without the balancer and see if it makes any difference. I use alfabeet which I think is great now, after having had my 25yo with loose teeth on it all through one winter. I like to feed alfalfa but found the weanlings didn't much like it in the form of chaff but they wolf it down as soaked alfabeet! Are her teeth OK if she won't eat hay? It could be that your pony's natural temperament is anxious but if malnourished she was quieter than would be normal for her?

Ive pretty much decided to do that Sarahp, I used the cool conditioning cubes on my nieces horse who can be hot and he was fine with them so I will stick with those but remove the balancer. A friend has text me tonight to say one of her ponies became hot on the balancer too so I could be right in my thoughts.
She certainly perked up after being fed well over a period of a few weeks, she gained weight to a point but then levelled out probably around the time she started getting jumpy. I'm sure she is not an anxious pony, she has a lovely kind, laid back temperament, quite bold, willing and eager to please, was happily schooling in a paddock next to a corn field being ploughed etc by massive tractors right next to the fence etc. Doesn't trash her stable, its always tidy. Its like she started silently fretting! I had her half sister until I lost her at 14, they are spookily alike in temperament, I have more or less been able to guess accurately what her quirks are and what she's likely to do. She is certainly well from the inside out, for a white pony her coat gleams. Her teeth are getting checked but she was managing fine with hay. I'm pretty certain the underlying problem is the feed, the fact the hunt has upset her so much I think is a symptom, straw that broke the camels back so to speak. What suits one animal doesn't necessarily suit another.

I've just had a similar problem feeding the new NAF Ultimate Balancer to my pony. He gradually got spookier and difficult to get to concentrate in his work and the last show was a nightmare. Now off it and has more or less returned to how he was before.

TS feeds are designed to be fed with a balancer though, and are not fully fortified with vits and mins so I wonder if a powder vit/min supplement with no "carrier" might be an idea in the long term if she does calm down without the TS balancer.

Sarahp, yes, I'm replacing the balancer with a multi-vitamin supplement instead. Fanfarefan, hope you get yours settled and sorted!

Is your pony on haylage or hay. I found haylage can whizz up ponies even without hard feed.

I had an ex racer who would go demented in his stable when the hunt was around, this affected him for days after. Vet said a few clicks of Sedalin may help and it did, I had a hunt card so knew when they were due and found a few hours before hand a couple of clicks made a huge difference.

Yes, BRT it's on my list for our next hunt visit which unfortunately is less than 1/4 mile away but she has three weeks to cool off before then. Think I might have some Sedalin as well;) !!!
48 hours on with top spec balancer removed and she is much more relaxed than she has been for a few weeks, obviously it will take longer to leave her system but the signs are encouraging. I also replaced her almost gone salt lick with a magnesium based one, she's had a lick of it. She's been on haylage a few days only mixed with hay.
At least today she's not been manically door banging and generally rude in her stable, seems I may be getting the sweet calm pony back. Her behaviour I can only liken to a child that's been let loose with as much cake and sweeties they can eat at a kids party!

Very quick update. Just over a week off top spec balancer and pony is totally herself again. No longer doolally. Eating well, not tucked up and totally relaxed. One happy pony and very happy owner!

Yes I had mine on exactly the same and she turned fizzy after 3 days on it! I cut both out in the end as I wasnt sure if it was the balancer or the oil in the top chop that was doing it Sent from my GT-I9505 using proboards

I have mine on the Molasses free Alpha A which seems to have no ill effect. Phew!!!
