my conni is 4 and qualified for Picton final :)but if he was 5+ and ready for opens i would not do Pictons but would go up a class eg intermediates etc or not compete at the final and give the real novices a chance to show what they can do in their first year never done Picton Final before, will i be stood up against some olympia/HOYs qualified ponies then

I know it was a while back in this thread. But the lovely Fell that was third was one that never gets a mention and aways seems to be passed over. It was the Goods Underwoods Icarus.

You say with reference to the picton final, ''not compete at the final and give the real novices a chance to show what they can do in their first year'' why shoud a pony who is a real novice, that has only been to (say for example....anthing from 4-10 shows ), is extreemly lucky and has qualified for HOYS and/or Olympia, not compete at the fianl..............are they not, in your words, showing what a real novice can do in its first year? Should it not be commended that a 'novice' can actualy be produced so well that it can come out in its first year and achieve so much Mabey thats just an example of the sad state of affairs that showing has become, people are all to quick to say ' bent, fix, rubbish type, not good enough, they are proffessionals, its been there and done it! its a novice, its not a novice'..................WHY. Why cant people say, well done, good luck to you, I may not have won today (even though yours may have gone a bit better, be a better type whatever) does it not make you a bigger person that when you are dissapointed at your own results, you are able to go over to the winner and say WELL DONE, and not then come on here and slate the poor sods! Ok, rant over.............didnt realise I went on so much!!! sorry, but hopefuly you will get the general gist of what I am trying to say.

Oh and I might add that any horse that has qualified for HOYS or Olympia is ineligable to the the Intermediate ridden the year after, so its best it can do the novices this year.

Agree with what all of u have said but NPS new rules are not fair as far as novice ponies are concerned. I Went to a show the other day where a fairly well known Rider was riding new "Novice" horse in the picton and the open. They won both the classes but did not take the qualifiers as they were not members of NPS(even though they were last year). Now under NPS rules the horse should have been classed as an open horse from then on but now under 07 rules about membership it isnt. If they joined NPS next year Horse could still compete in Pictons as they werent members last year! This does not make it fair for true novices!

Quote from earlier post.. ..Katie Carter under Bob Templeton!!
Thanks for bringing this to light...I was wondering why I received 10 less show marks on a better show!!!! Top conformation as usual but still didnt win it! Thrilled to go champion tho. The HOYS quest continues.

I heard Rosmarche Hollyoak was M&M (HOYs) mini Champion despite coming second in the lead rein. Has anyone ever heard of a Mini Champion not actually qualifying for HOYs before?

I believe that the little jockey on the 1st placed pony took a tumble in the championship, hence the reason the 2nd placed pony was champion, with the FR winner reserve
