Well thank you for this, though I am still wondering how on earth we are going to manage - its absolutely pouring here in Leigh Sinton. One small point: I would feel a lot happier if the post had been signed by a council member's true name to give it proper validity? Or am I being picky? (Mind you, it could be because I am once again soaking wet and on third change of clothes TODAY!)

Try accessing the site & press & hold down your ctrl key whilst clicking on the refresh button at the same time. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Personally I am pretty disappointed it's being held there still & I'm very glad I'm a) not going & potentially going to get earache from the locals & b) one of the locals watching everyone else cruising past in their shiny wagons whilst still mopping up. I'd love to know how running this show will help the local economy - most the businesses that might have seen show trade will still be closed due to water damage etc.

Wrong choice really. Just about every other show organizer has taken the decision not to go ahead with shows because of the horrendous conditions at the moment. Yet the NPS which is all about the welfare of the ponies decides that they will run theirs. I understand it may be a financial choice but if anything goes wrong NPS won’t have any finances to worry about anymore. By running this show NPS must feel that the conditions are acceptable but will also have to accept responsibility for any eventuality that may arise from it.

OMG its lashing down again in Worcs. Not quite as bad as last Friday but the lanes are starting to flood again. We should have been on our way to Hickstead today but Frying Pan and Fire spring to mind. There's always next year, and the pony is safe at home, so are we and the lorry.
The floods have to be seen to be believed, its just a total shock to see water as far as the eye can see instead of all the fields. Here's hoping things dry up before next week.

Have heard that if the show is run for 1 day then cancelled they do not have to refund. ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) Maybe this is their answer to the financial solution. ![:-X](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/lipssealed.png)

yes i have heard that if they start it, then abandon it they then don't have to refund I hope you will come on here and and apologise if this does not happen. Do you really think that is what they are thinking of doing. I suppose you will be one who will be doing a rain dance - just to prove a point. A lot of very hard work has been put in to organising these events, the trades stands will be happy its on and so will most competitors. You do know that your skin IS waterproof, dont you and your horse trudge about in mud all winter, I do and as I have no schooling ring they go just as well on any surface. Thoses with delicate animals have the choice to stay at home. We are talking about 4 legged strong animals not ballet dancers. Whats up with all you lot where is our British spirit gone?

I am very surprised that they are going ahead considering all that has happened.
This is the trouble when showing becomes the be all and end all of our lives, we cant see passed it and become a bit to single minded when something is put in the way! Not said to offend because have been guilty of it myself.
But does anyone see where i'm coming from. Feel torn between the need to show and some compassion for people who are suffering and still will be for weeks.

i have entered myself and am undecided whether to go. To the comment about stopping halfway for them not to have to refund, all i can add is my fathers company had a stand at royal welsh and the trade stands were not happy as they to had heard that if the show was run for 50% of the show time then no refunds had to be given to trade stands etc needless to say people were up in arms about this. But the show could then claim on their insurance for any losses etc im not saying this is the case in this instance though just i wouldnt rule it out. We are keeping an open mind and seeing what the weather does

The NPS has made the discion to go ahead and it is up to competitors to decide if they want to go, no one is forcing us The fact that other shows have cancelled before us may mean that the ground will be OK for us. While I have great sympathy for the people who have and are still enduring dreadfull conditions I can not see what effect us going to a show is going to have on them. Obviously the people who run the showground know what local conditions are like and have given the go ahead.

Many shows can claim on insurance if they run for two days and then abandon. You are risking your families, ponies and other peoples lives by smothering your trucks in mud. Would be interesting to find out the views of the local Police Force and insurance company on running the event. News from a Council members friend who was speaking openly to us at New Forest was that the Police wanted to keep the showground as an evacuation centre for Tewkesbury and that they didn't want to have to deal with ponies as well should the weather deteriorate which it has this afternoon.
Much can improve over three days however the members should now be given the option of refunds so that they have the choice of whether to:-
1. Risk going and use their entries. 2. Leave the money and interest wth the NPS. 3. Donate it to the Flood Fund. 4. Use to for themselves.

Well I for one cannot see how a society that was set up as a charity supposedly for the welfare of ponies can possibly go ahead with this show. The rings may look lovely but what will they look like at the end of day one? Ask the Midlands in hand competitors what they thought of the rings at Malvern even a couple of weeks ago - looked lovely but when you walked on them they had two inches of water siting on top and we've had loads more rain since. Of course we competitors have a choice - but as the NPS have said they are going ahead then we don't get a refund and the NPS win all round. Well I for one will not risk my one and only pony for a cheap piece of ribbon - he means too much to me for that. If the NPS are that desparate for money then they can keep my £200 - but perhaps someone should be asking why the NPS is so financially dependant of the running of one show. The Game Fair has been cancelled Hickstead CDI Dressage has been postponed Other organisations have seen sense - what are the NPS thinking? ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) I for one would like to know who was involved in the decision making process and also if anyone from Council actually has made the trip to Malvern to see what access is like for themselves? Also, who is qualified within the NPS to make official risk assessments in these circumstances and more importantly, for those in favour of running the show on the Council - how many of those will actually have ponies competing at the show.

You have a choice - either stop at home or go and brave it.
My ponies don't mind mud in fact they would sooner stand in it than on dry grass.
As long as we get onto the field safely I can't see a problem.
Yes it is terrible what has happened down there but I'm sure the NPS have taken all of the necessary advice and it is deemed safe for us to go.
And by the way the sun is shining here and no I'm not in the Med!!

We have just returned from a very wet but enjoyable RWAS. Whilst there we heard the following rumours: the show would be cancelled tomorrow ( Mon ) The show would be cancelled Tues definately. The Trade stands would be sent home Tues pm & the show closed Wed. All were untrue, the show ran as planned. Why is our "sport" riddled with such gossip? Lets just get on with it & enjoy the ponies & the showing. We are all capable of making our own decisions about whether or not to show.

Thankfully the NPS are dedicated to doing the best for their membership, and council members voted for by society members have made the careful and brave decision to go ahead with the show. Good luck for those of you who have decided to make the journey. Drive carefully, look after your ponies and enjoy the show, and don't let the rain damped our spirits. There is considerably more hard standing for equine exhibitors at Royal Welsh than at Malvern. We were also told at New Forest that Kent County could have offered a safe alternative and that the Kent Show stewards had offered to return, the food vans could have been arranged at the drop of a hat, the jumps made available and that show services are much cheaper there. Very efficieint local show organisers had offered to pull out the stops for the show to run but their offer must have been turned down. The NPS must be attracted to Risks. Have you noticed that directions to the showground have been omitted from the announcement/ Are they putting on a ferry at Upton on Severn? or do we have to swim? ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

I think that it is a real shame, that people continue to make assumptions the NPS would make a decision of this magnitude without fully understanding all potential issues....especially relating to the health and welfare of native ponies. I expect that the reason that the final decisions have been so late is due to the fact that alterations / consultation has been taking place between the NPS / 3 Counties & Highways Agency. All we can now hope for is that the weather forecasters have got it right for once with a steady improvement of the weather over the next 5 days.....it would be nice if we got a little of the European heatwave next week!!!! But then if the ground drys up everyone will just start moaning that the ground is HARD!!!!! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

I dont think that is really a major concern for the NPS show next week !!!
As for weather - there have been several reports on here of rain today, and according to BBC and Met Office there is more rain due this weekend (Sunday). Dont know beyond that.
We have made decision not to go to NPS this year. No finals or HOYS/Olympia classes entered so going to save our lorry and ponies and stay at home in warm and dry for another day/year. Glad I have not been travelling around country on qualifying mission like I did last year !
Good luck to those of you who are going for travel and your stay there.

Hi "WASH" [Anonymous poster]
"Truthfully" it doesn't matter what I think or say because either way I would get it in the back teeth from someone on this website........
Therefore, I will answer your questions as follows...the NPS council are committed to making the society successful and to meet its objectives specifically in areas of welfare and education.....any decision that is made that dramatically impacts the future of the society or its objectives is taken VERY seriously by all.
Any implication that these decisions are made indescriminately are completely worthless / untrue.
It is my hope that despite all adversities that we have seen over the past few months due to freak weather, the championship show will go ahead and be successful.....maybe then people will finally appreciate the hardwork and effort that has taken place over the past 4 weeks.
Please note I will make no further comment pertaining to this subject on this thread, if you require further information I suggest that you contact the NPS Office officially, and they will handle any questions that you may have.
Best regards
Richard Holt
