Anyone ever been somewhere and taken their ponies with them? If so where and how much did it cost? Was it worth it? X

We take our every year, this year we are going on two holidays with them. One B&B and one self catering, prices vary quite a lot depending on what you want. Horses seem to love it and we get to see new countryside. We tend to go for long weekends (2 or 3 nights) and are paying £60 - £180 per person and pony. There are lots of places now that do holidays with your horse, just need to google the area you want to visit. We then get the OS map for the area and check out routes via other websites such as BHS, Bridleways, Ride Yorkshire etc to see if other riders have registered routes we can use. Usually the farms we are staying on have suggestions too. It is great fun!

I can highly recommend Church Farm in the Forest of Dean, they have excellent stables and turnout paddocks for guests, and two self catering flats. My pony loved the grass gallop and the all weather canter track and they also have an arena, plus you can hack out direct into the Forest.

We went to grizedale in the Lake District, we took the ponies and stayed in the horse box and hacked through grizedale Forrest and go ape is just up the road if you feel like having a non horsey day. There is also camping pods and yurts if you don't stay in the Horsebox. They also have their own ponies and do pony trekking with them so everyone can have a pony to ride if you don't have room to take one for everyone in the wagon. Lovely family set up on a diversified farm.

Have to agree with Louise Dixon and also mopsy, I lived in the lakes for 13 years and the hacking and scenery both there and also in the Scottish Borders was awesome.
I also spent five wonderful days at Kelso in the Scottish Borders having lessons with Sylvia Loch, of The Classical Seat fame at her home and with the pleasure of riding her wonderful Spanish and Portuguese schoolmasters. This was one of the best experiences ever, it was such a thrill to ride these beautiful, perfectly schooled horses with such an amazing teacher and then to sit in Lady Lochs' kitchen and chat with her over coffee and biscuits was just surreal. Would recommend a lesson there if anyone is holidaying in that area, plus there are some beautiful guest houses to stay in as well as camping etc, something for everyone.
Also worth a trip to World Horse Welfare at Belwade, which is a lovely day out too, if you're in the area.
Ps Louise, I'd love to come and ride at your place I always think it looks lovely on your pictures x

Went to Field Farm in Lincolnshire last summer, off again this year. It was fab! We have also been there it was brill. Accommodation is in cottages caravans or you can say in boxes tents etc. it's a 10 min walk to beach with about 100 mts on road. On the beach you are on your own as far as you can see, it was amazing! The yard has grass paddocks or stables, there is an indoor riding space and out door, a cross country course which I was defiantly not using but then was the first on saying lets just try the steps/ go through the water etc and some show jumps. It is well worth looking up on google.

Thanks everyone, I had looked at grizedale but didn't mention if you can stay in your own horsebox or not! But if you can then that is a definite possibility as don't really want to travel far for our first trip in horsebox! Louise Dixon, we have only just bought horsebox so this will be a trial run but once more confident we will definitely consider a longer trip to you!

It is something I really want to do once my children are all at school, it is good to know that people would be interested in being able to come and camp/sleep in wagon etc - I am well set up with small paddocks with field shelters, water troughs etc., just lacking human acommodation!
