I didn't advocate charging a fee but mearly mentioned how lucky we are not to have to pay one!
Ensuring that people have a valid reason to be on site does reduce the risk as it reduces the risk of opportunist thefts.

i just think its a shame on the innocents who go to watch and support the sport they enjoy. remember that lots of the crimes that take place are made by fellow competitors. a sad day when it has come to this.

I usually attend the winter champs to either watch friends or buy a jacket from Le Beau Cheval or a numnah from Courtlea..... Would I have been turned away after a 130 mile each way trip? I have no objections per se to paying to get in but how does that ensure I'm not a thief or a weirdo? How to the trade stages feel about customers being turned away? It's made me reconsider travelling to Arena UK to spectate..... I can't afford 6 gallons of fuel and a day off work to be wasted because I can't get in!!

Not sure this 'conversation' is happening in the right area, but, as it is here, for what it's worth, here is my opinion. I would be the first to ensure all measures to safeguard children, horses etc are in place. However, what is the difference between allowing spectators into this show and into other shows, apart from the fact that tickets may have to be bought? It would appear there were some specific issues that the BSPS were concerned about here and, to the credit of those on the gates, they were only doing 'their job', but does preventing spectators from entering the show ground really ensure the safety of those competing, be they equine or human? Maybe the questions asked could have been more considered, but maybe also, if the specific concerns do relate to either the safety of horses or children, we, as owners and/or parents, should make sure that we are taking all necessary measures to ensure that their welfare is not in jeopardy. Keeping our children safe should be our number one priority and one which, as parents, should not be too difficult, provided we are constantly aware of their whereabouts. Keeping our horses safe, particularly when stabled at shows, is more tricky and so I think a wider debate is due...

Thank you WH Management for your post. I did indeed have a lovely afternoon - luckily the second security person I saw quickly and sensibly evaluated that a middle aged woman in a van signwritten with the name of her employer was likely to be low on his list of master criminals. I got lots of results at the show but they are likely to be on the BSPS site by now as my phone crashed and I couldnt post them! I did however manage to get quite a few pics of the marks from today (up till about 2:30pm) and I think some from last night which may be of use to some people The native/trad HOYS pony class was HUGE! I wouldnt have wanted to sort through that lot as a judge. The pony part bred arab class was great, very very competative and a wonderful winner in Greenacres Pilot who went on to take the championship Horse I would most like to take home - Aidensfield Rupert

For the solipsistic - insurance. It's a two way street.

sorry but i dont really see how paying an entrance fee or a membership fee diminishes the risk. Nor do I most abuse comes from people kids know not strangers. Theft is not down to which society you belong to it is down to being a unscrupulous person. If you are that worried about your kids and tack and ponies just stay home. Well done to all competing and to the organisers for what I gather was a well run show.

For the solipsistic - insurance. It's a two way street. Solipsism? No, surely just protecting what's ours. Insurance doesn't come into it.

I'm sure you'll find that insurance has a pivotal role in the argument.

I'm sure you'll find that insurance has a pivotal role in the argument. Maybe it does, but if we safeguard what's ours in the first place, insurance is unnecessary and irrelevant. What exactly is your point?

Merely alluding to your point of 'wider discussion'.

Merely alluding to your point of 'wider discussion'. Fair enough - I was just thinking about how to keep our equine friends 'safe' whilst away from home and, to be honest, I don't know how we can guarantee this. Insurance clearly has its place but should be (hopefully) unnecessary - if we take all necessary precautions to protect them, and (even more hopefully) a last resort - Heaven forbid that we need to make a claim on our insurance because something awful has happened to our horses whilst stabled away from home. I guess it's really all about minimising risk, as it is impossible to eradicate it altogether.

Anyone know how many forward in the RI workers today and how many clear, by all accounts apparently a good testing course? Good to hear! Do you mean the horse class? If so catalogue shows 13 entries. Score sheet shows 6 entries with two going clear Intermediates - catalogue 19 entries, score sheet shows 15 entries with four going clear
