Any recommendations for a chaff that has no alfalfa and low molasses/low sugar. Happy hoof and hifi lite has alfalfa. Alfalfa sends my pony loopy to ride... I am 100% of this after three tries on and off alfalfa chaff, each time showing a dramatic effect on his speed and stamina when ridden! Never seen this before.. but every pony is different I guess.
Thanks :-)

Just chop is about the only one - it is chopped meadow hay and oat straw with no additives.

Thanks will look in to both! Sugars seem to do nothing to him like in mollichaff... but I don't like feeding sugary stuff.

Hi Fi molasses free does have alfalfa. Plus, the same as with sugar free drinks, you have to be careful if anything else has been put in to replace the sweetness.

Spillers cool fibre contains alfalfa !!!! I wasn't sure an tried to check their website to no avail. I was looking for alfalfa free for a mare who can't have it and the only options I could find were just chop or a grass chaff (usually high in sugar as it's spring grass, flash dried. Also some have a soya oil coating which doesn't suit every horse). Sent from my GT-I9195 using proboards

He turned in to something wild to ride and never tired after 2 hours, totally out of character .. never suspected it to hi fi lite doing it, completely back to normal off it! Yes agree about replacement things to sweeten abd I have just read some alfalfa in spillers cool fibre. I am going to go with the just chop or Timothy chop by simple systems and get it delivered I think!

Can't you omit a chaff if your pony is getting enough fibre from hay and just feed a balancer and/of speedibeet or other hard feed if required?

Safe and sound has alfalfa in it, just grass has a lot of sugar in it. I have tried to leave chaff out but then he wont really eat the calm and condition! Can't just have a 'normal' horse can I!

get a chaff cutter and make your own, then you know exactly what your pony is eating

Check the white label sewn into the seam of feedbags for the list of actual ingredients, the manufacturers blurb doesn't always give them.

I use Simple Systems feeds which my ponies thrive on and their Timothy Chop is pure timothy hay which is naturally low in sugar plus there are no additives whatsoever.
