My horse coliced on Saturday morning, twisted her gut.. We rushed her to troytown equine hospital, Kildare where she had an operation to remove 10ft of her small intestine. she is in the stable there on a drip. It's been 72 hours since the op she is not keeping fluids down and keeps refluxing. If she doesn't pull through tonight and start to get her stomach working again she will have to have another operation to c why this is?
Does anyone out there have any advice or anything to help me?
I went to to see her yesterday and feel totally helpless that she is there and there is nothing more I can do to help her.
i know she is in the best possible hands but I'm totally bedside myself about it all

good luck for your mare
You need to keep calm now, easy to say I know but very important when you visit her.
Follow advice given to you by the Vets
Keep yourself busy at home
Look after yourself for when she comes home

I have no advice other than to say I have been in a similar situation with my old boy and I can totally empathise with how you feel. Keep yourself well for when she comes home she'll need her mum more than ever then. Sending loads of positive thoughts your way xx

When I worked for graham fletcher we nearly lost master miniott. He went to Liverpool and had 15ft of intestine removed due to a blockage. It was a slow process but he returned to full fitness and international show jumping.
Keeping everything crossed for you.

You have already done the most important thing for her that you can in getting her to hospital where they can treat and care for her.
Now let them do their job, visit her and keep strong. Good luck.

Keep strong and patient my friends horse has just gone through this he had surgery end December and things were very touch and go at times. On the plus side he had his first little ridden walk out this week. It's hard work nursing through the recovery period but for us was well worth it in the end.
