How on earth can we stop our palaminos nose burning, he lives out but gets factor 50 kids waterproof sun cream lathered on a good few times a day. It's not helping in the slightest

Sounds like photosensitivity. Id try to get a cover on the nose and consider blood tests in case he has liver damage. Be aware any pink skin can burn so id cover his heels if pink

I find sudocrem works better with a good fly mask (with nose protection) on top. I've always been told not to leave a mask on overnight but I have to as it is so bright at the moment at 5am that she burns without it before I get there.

My friend has a nose guard to protect from the sun, it works well, and I think cost £8.

Have you tried the sun cream P20?? (I think that's what it's called) it's more like an oil than a cream, but gives very good block from the sun.

Our sec a has a pink nose and suffers terribly from sunburn, I totally recommend Filtabac, sun cream but also antibacterial and fungicidal and available from your vet or online. Fab stuff and doesn't rub off, beat everything else hands down !

the cheaper suncream the better, i bought factor 50 nivea which actually caused my very pink skined colourd to burn as some of the more expensive brands contain alot of plastics(for the nice smells etc) these cause more damage to humans as well as horses. so i bought the cheap factor 50 primark one and it is fantastic its really thick so stays on all day and he is ridiculously pink skinned and reacts to everything and he doesnt have a problem with this. hope that helps? x

The Boots soltan once factor 50 for kids is fab. You did need to make sure it is the 'once' which is the all day one but again it's really thick and waterproof and relatively cheap. My welsh a has a very pink nose and if put this on in the morning, it is still on at the end of the day despite playing with the water, rolling, mutual grooming etc.

There has been a lot on the news recently about sun creams not being as effected as they state with regards to factor protection which may be the case with your cream.

i would put a fly guard over it, that should supply plenty of shade on his mouth but will have to stay out with a headcollar

when i had a gelding with a pink nose that used to burn terribly the best thing was an aerborn sunfilter nosenet, was the only thing that stopped him burning, we used it with a fieldsafe headcollar.

One of mine was allergic to the lanolin in certain sunblocks, ended up more sore with suncream than he ever got without it :-(

Human sun cream blisters on horses, even the sensitive or child stuff. You need to but a equine version. For years we thought our section A was getting burnt from the butter cups but it was the sun cream. Like anything it is worse on some rather than others.

I've been using Trilanco gold label sun guard for 2 years now on my pink nosed sec A. It's about £6 and comes in a 100ml pot, it's solid but melts in your fingers to apply, has no smell and lasts my boy all day in the field but I do have to re-apply if he's being ridden as it does tend to "sweat off" at shows.
