Oh dear! That's not good news. How very worrying. I had heard that Scott is not in Australia at the moment.
Fingers crossed that his ponies are all right!
Update. Scott has returned to Australia. No further news.

There have been dreadful bush fires across Victoria today whilst many were competing at their HOYS. Some people have lost their houses and horses. None of us should moan about the snow again.Imagine what it must be like to lose everything. Our thoughts go out to them.

Here's hoping no news is good news and Scott and his ponies are safe & sound. The show was the Victorian Riding Pony Show not Barastoc. Would rather have ice and snow in preference to fire any day. Our thoughts go to all of our friends "Down Under" putting up with fire and floods. Anyone know if the family with Lemonshill Firebird are ok?

Received email tonight from Australia with a quote from their Horse Gossip which says Scott worked very hard yesterday to evacuated all his ponies and his friends rallied round last night to save his property. God bless them all

Sounds terrible. The same email told of one family who loaded their foals onto their truck but the mares took fright and hooked off into the fire in a forest. How heartbreaking is that.

G'day. Deanhills boys are safe, tanned and healthy beating out the embers. While the fires burned they were at the Riding Pony shows winning. Entries were down but by all accounts they had a very g'day for a pair of Poms! They'll be busy now as there are fires closeby in Woodend.

Been talking to a pal who is looking at the possibility of the UK equine community donating unused items or unwanted stock to our equivalents in Australia who have lost everything. This needs to be done in an organised manner to be effective and fair. They need halters [clean web ones are easier to export] ropes, bandages, veterinary dressings, buckets, work gloves. Rugs may prove difficult to send. The present economic climate is difficult for people here but do you think people would help and donate?

Just to let you know, I have spoken to Helen who owns Lemonshill Firebird and they are fine as they are about 1hr and a half away from where the fires are, thank god ;D I hope Scott and his ponies are okay and won't be effected by it.

Maybe someone could ask Beyonce to re-release that song and the photos for the Bush fire cause?
Does anyone on Horse Gossip have contacts working in the music industry who could do that?
Let's hope everyone who has experienced very generous Australian hospitality assists with raising funds for our friends across "The Pond".

we had fires very near us when we lived there a few years ago, its really terrifying, and until you have lived with the fear, you don't realise what it is like. we had a contingency plan and the rabbit even spent the night in the lorry (in her cage) just in case. you don't realise that if the fires come everything is pitch black and you can't find anything. you cannot leave headcollars and rugs on the horses to save time as they could burn onto them. it made me feel sick last week, one riding pony stud lost all their ponies, several people lost their lives trying to save their animals. the Australians are really amazing and try to look after each other. two complete towns were wiped out and the death toll is nearly 300, including the people not yet found. the ?firies ' are the most wonderful people , risking their lives to fight the fires, they are completely selfless, and leave their own families and homes also in danger, to save complete strangers. please donate to help people to get back on their feet, they have lost everything, not just the odd saddle or rug, but EVERYTHING they owned. it certainly puts life in perspective. cheers amanda

This is just such a sad situation, and to think here we all were last week moaning about the snow. My thoughts are with all in Victoria and especially anyone here who has connections out there.

Has anyone contacted the record company because they might - this sounds awful - see it as good publicity at a time of ecomonic mayhem to have one of their artistes supporting this fund.

The fires around Melbourne are getting much media attention but the area of Gippsland where there are many horse and pony people/breeders and Bendigo have also been devasted with fires still burning. They would appreciate help.

PLEASE RE-VISiT THE WEB LINK ABOVESony kindly released "Halo" on Friday and it is hoped - yet to be confirmed - that some of the proceeds will support the Bush Fire Fund. It has gone straight into the charts. Various collections will take place at shows over the summer. Thank you
