Do u agree? I entered a show that involved needing to book two stables (1 as a stop over as the show was so far away and 1 as a overnight stay on the showground) My pony sadly injured her front leg the day we were meant to travel so i instantly phoned to cancel the stables and provide a vets certificate to support the decision not to travel only to be told that NEITHER will refund me!!!! I think this is disgraceful!!!! It's a total of £76 that i will now lose as they told me i didnt give 24hrs notice! Am i being unreasonable?? Any show i have competed at has always offered a full refund with a vets note. Opinions please.....

I sympathise with you but I also sympathise with the show. They still have to pay all their costs - insurance, set up costs, judge expenses etc etc and pay for the stabling. I lost over 600 one year when my horse went lame. Equifest was the main expense and I hardly got any money back.

I think it is the norm not to refund stabling fees under any circumstance

I know some shows have a cut off date to be entitled to a refund with stabling and entries.

Sorry everyone i dont think i explained it very well. They were both just normal livery yards NOT temporary stables or stables at a showground. The show wasn't even organised by the yard it was being held on, it was just at their facilities so as for costs....they didn't have any. They even wanted to charge me more for bedding! I would agree had they been stables on a showground as I appreciate they have to cover costs but surely on a livery yard i would have thought it would have been different!? I was also not told that i was required to give 24 hrs notice but maybe that was a given that i had overlooked.

Of course a livery yard still has costs. They may have turned others away for the stable and not be able to fill it with no notice, they may have spent time (&money e.g. staff costs) getting the stable ready for you. They have overheads too and business is business. I think 24 hr notice is very fair. I know you have a genuine reason but plenty don't in this situation and just think letting people down and messing around last minute is fine so I can see the yards pov as well still I'm afraid.

I would have to agree with mf, with less than 24 hour notice, regardless of you being told this or not, I would not expect a refund
