12hh - Greendown Jake - Debbie Thomas Ellis T Burns piloting (Second pony this jockey has qualified for DT, in this class, plus she also piloted G Primrose to qualify at M Counties!!) Is this really sporting behaviour producers to ask accomplished riders to qualify your owners ponies? Something else to bear in mind is that the jockey can only ride one of the ponies that he/she has qualified, so someone else gets to ride the other(s) - can't be bad! can see both sides of the this , but how many other sports can you qualify for a final , them another person takes there place ?

what was shp champ please Ellis rode Gryngallt Primrose for Zara as she had school commitments that she was unable to get out of. Ellis has also ridden Delami Verdi for Zara for the same reason. Unfortunately, not all schools are as supporting of our sport as we'd like them to be and with so many qualifiers being mid week and term time, the need for replacement jockeys becomes a need. We are incredibly grateful to Ellis for riding our ponies and will continue to ask her in future.

Your missing the point - most producers I know work with jockeys to make sure they can qualify their own ponies, taking account of holidays and illness! Furthermore it's not fair for the other kids in the class to watch this practice going on. Everyone who has paid there entry has the right to a fair crack at the whip.

I don't see how this differs from when a producer rides a pony for a client . As has been said of course they are going to use the best jockey they can .

I don't understand all the producer and jockey bashing, if only I could go back 30 years, and have ridden. I admire these children, and love to see them all doing well.

Ability of rider(s) obviously not in question!! Your missing the point - most producers I know work with jockeys to make sure they can qualify their own ponies, taking account of holidays and illness! Furthermore it's not fair for the other kids in the class to watch this practice going on. Everyone who has paid there entry has the right to a fair crack at the whip. Last week ( in the sp fr ) at the tsr 3 ponies were being jockied by kids who have already qualified their own ponies, now they've moved onto someone else's!!! It will b no surprise to u that the last two tickets have gone to ponies being ridden by these kids. Lils , you may like watching the producers jockeys do well - so do you not see and feel for the disheartened little jockeys riding there own ponies? Unfortunately this is showing- there seems to b a never ending list of things that are not fair. The only option is- if you can't beat them, join them. So I have now done this; I am yet to put another jockey on my daughters pony, however it's now another option in the tool box. People say kids learn a lot in fr.( so do the parents). They learn much more than ring craft, they learn life is competitive and hard. So if they want things in life they will have to work hard for it, and get a good job to pay for it! ( A good lesson I think, but is that fun?)

Regarding jockeys riding ponies to qualify, I know that no rules are broken but I just feel for some of the children who have been desperately trying to qualify their own ponies and get pipped at the post by a jockey who they know will not be riding that particular pony at HOYS. I know many producers have 'stable' jockeys who are very capable riders and often ride an array of ponies to qualify and that seems commonly accepted these days. But when producers start 'lending' their jockey to another producer to qualify a pony I think that it is when it starts to cause some ill-feeling. Just my personal thoughts.

But is this not part of a producers role? It may be controversial but people pay to have a producer qualify their ponies. It also gives a fantastic boost to those who are home produced when they do win.
Congrats to all that did well at the show regardless of who rode them.

That's showing! ... the producers are only doing their job, no rules broken, whether you feel it is fair or not doesn't hold water I'm afraid .. watch em, learn from em, aspire to be as good as them then go challenge them in the ring with your own super little jockey and pony
Good luck for the rest of the season, hope you get there ... from home-produced lady xx
