Oh right , someone told me today they did ? Where?? Stoneleigh ( sadly used to be) the superb showground for the "English" Royal Agricultural Society Show. If the sun really shone, you got burnt (as I learned to my cost many years ago!) . . . And, if it rained, you got wet. Do you 'new to showing' peeps melt when it rains?? Editied to add - Actually, there did used to be an 'Indoors' at Stoneleigh.
Back in the '60's, the late Dorian Williams inspired the BHS to build what was then a state of the art indoor arena with full length seating along one long side, an upper, glazed in viewing gallery with a small bar, cafe and recreational seating.
The BHS offices and an excellent library were based within the complex.
This building was used by numerous other societies including the BSPS who held their inaugral and subsequent Winter Champs there - the Midlands AHS Group would use it regularly - the British Show Hack & Cob Association (BSHA) had two shows a year there - there was a popular Autumn Foal show masterminded by Bill Farrell and the late Elspeth Ferguson - The RDA used it - many brilliant Lecture demos were held in it . . . .
Very sadly this excellent complex was knocked down to make way for the now redundant Food Hall for the Royal Show.
