A local feed shop is selling off Calm & Condition that is approx 1 month out of date - they say that the vitamin benefits will have diminished but apart from that the feed is fine.
Is there any risk to using it? If not, will the lack of vitamins affect it's ability to improve 'condition'?

The best before date is the date that the manufacturer will guarantee the level of minerals and vitamins but if it has been stored correctly those may still be there. If its been kept cool and dry it will be safe to feed but would want a knockdown price, my only concern would be mould as its been so warm and humid but that would be for any feed bought in.

We sell feed and often end with out of date bags which we use at home rather than waste. As above don't rely on vitamin content but if stored correctly the feed shouldn't be mouldy.
I wouldn't feed youngstock of any kind on out of date food though

the dates are advisory ,amd by law have to be displayed it by no means affects the feed value at that early stage , you would probably fimd vits and mims would still be fine 3-6 months dowm the line , it just cant ne guaramteed

Thank you for the advice, it has been stored in their feed warehouse along with the other stock so should be OK. It is a third of the usual cost so a good discount, think I will pop back tomorrow & stock up!

I might buy odd bag discounted feed but probably more so in winter, due to temperature/storage conditions at yard. In the summer I am not using half as much feed, so would not buy an out of date bag as I wouldn't want it sat around. Different story though depending on how many horses you are feeding, how quick you go through your feed.
