I'm currently looking for a saddle pad for showing a standard Shetland.
I would like peoples advice/experiences. I have been looking at the Milner, Zoe Snape and thorn and I am at a total loss as to which one to purchase.
Thank you.x

I have recently bought a thorn deluxe plus for our standard shetland as my daughter found the Zoe Snape just didn't give enough support for doing open classes and jumping . The deluxe plus has a good knee and thigh roll and puts the jockey in a position similar to a normal saddle. The Zoe Snaps was fine for first ridden though .

We have also recently bought a thorn deluxe plus to use and it is fab. I would agree with I love natives as we went for it as my daughter jumps and does XC in hers and feels totally secure.

I bought a Milner pad for my older son's shetland, and it is completely fantastic. It doesn't budge with having the felt underneath, and the suede surface is lovely and grippy, and keeps really nicely.
BUT, the Milner pad has a metal bar joining the two stirrup bars across the pony's back. This is fine on Hamish, who is really wide, but on my younger son's shetland, Dusty, who is much narrower, the bar is wider than he is, so it rocks from side to side in a scary way.
We have bought Dusty a Thorn Deluxe, which has nothing solid between the bars, it fits beautifully. There are only 2 things that are not perfect, and I am being really picky here as they are more about our situation than the pad in general - the knee rolls will be great when Angus is older, but just now as he is teeny, his feet are still on the flap, and so the knee rolls push his toes right out, and again because his feet are on the flaps, the leather is getting scraped a bit by his stirrups - I wish I had paid the extra to have the whole thing suede.
Basically, am very happy with both pads, and am particularly pleased with the very slimline girth I got from Amanda at Thorn (the Thorn has standard girth straps, the Milner dressage style ones). Can't comment on the Zoe Snape one.

My daughter races in her zoe snape and she is 13, also hunts, Showjumps etc! She had a thorn but preferred the zoe snape!!

We have a thorn, my daughter uses it on our standard Shetland, 13-2 Exmoor, and occasionally her 16hh ISH! It's fabulous. (we've tried them all over the years, but the thorn is her favourite)
