We stayed in the Ibis by the airport last year, it was extremely comfortable, and quite convenient too! My only moan was that, I found the rooms very very hot, and airless! I wasn't alone either!!

The Etap beds are definitely not comfy! if anyone has a camper or caravan there is a lovely campsite at meriden. We used a taxi from there to NEC cost about £8. no trouble parking or going on shuttle buses. Straight to the door. I agree. If this is the site at Meriden for 'adults only' it has to be my favourite site anywhere. Clean, quiet, lovely places to walk the long-suffering dog. And only 15 mins drive to the NEC. An evening bolt-hole after frenetic days at HOYS! Be warned though, they tend to charge a wee bit more when there are functions on at the NEC and a trade fair is usually on at the same time as HOYS. Well worth the extra, for the sanctuary of the place!

A few years ago, I never thought I'd hear myself extolling the virtues of a Caravan Park (!) but when OH first became ill, a caravan became a sensible alternative to a 'strange' hotel or yet another B&B. If this site you mention at Meriden, is the one for 'adults only' - it has to be my favourite site anywhere. Clean, quiet, good shower, lovely places to walk the long-suffering dog and offer stressed humans real chill out time. And, only 10 mins drive to the NEC. An evening bolt-hole after frenetic days at HOYS! Be warned though, they tend to charge a wee bit more when there are functions on at the NEC and a trade fair is usually on at the same time as HOYS. Well worth the extra, for the sanctuary of the place! Edited to add - apologies for duplication!!

I've just booked the Novotel which I thought would be expensive and it was one of the cheaper ones!

I hope you're wrong now that Ibis has taken it over - it does say "Furnished with our new Sweet Bed by ibis bed and bedding" so that sounds as if all the beds have been replaced....fingers crossed! I've stayed at the Etap at Birmingham airport twice, and found the room basic, but very comfortable! Good shower too.
