Lovely day today at POYS , everything really well organised with announcements for every class. To help matters the weather was beautiful and the sun has shone all day.
The sashes and finalist rosettes were gorgeous and the plaques a nice momento.
Our boys did us proud as usual with Wellbrow Freddie 3rd in Fell youngstock and Mai Dydd Ysbryd 3rd in a very strong coloured youngstock class.
Thank you to Janet and team for a lovely day x

Absolutely lovely day at POYS. Thank you to organisers, judges and stewards who must have worked very hard to give us all such a lovely day.
A big thank you to the judges in ring 5 who took the time to give detailed feedback to the competitors. My grandson's first outing in the 'adult' classes and the feedback from the conformation judge was really valuable to him for going forward to next season in a new class format. A lovely ride judge who gave our horse a really good ride.
Thoroughly enjoyable day, will be back again next year.

So glad everyone enjoyed themselves.
There seemed to be lots of very happy people having a good day out, which is what NCPA is all about.
Hope everyone had a safe journey home and some lovely memories of the day.
Well done to all the competitors wherever you were placed, but particular "well dones" to superb animals forward for the Brown Turner Ross Champion of Champions, the President's Cup, the Chairman's Cup and all the Golden Ticket finalists

It was a lovely day yesterday at POYS! Beautiful weather which topped it off! Does anyone know who got the championships?

Sorry about names (was concentrating on adding up!) but the Golden Supreme I/H was a wonderful grey Sec A (Sunwillow Galong?) shown by the Waller family & reserve was a fabulous Fell shown by a gentleman in yellow trousers!
Ridden was a true stamp of a FR SP shown by the Georgakis family & reserve was a coloured, ridden by Beth Driver
All the final 12s were superb animals.
The President's Cup was won by a Sec C shown by Ballagh Stud (also won Brown Turner Ross M&M section)
- sorry never saw any of the Chairman's Cup or ridden BTRs
The results will be on the website as soon as the exhausted show secretary has time to process them!
PS - not me but I'm pretty tired too!

Our fell Foggy Gill Gemma was Reserve in the Golden Supreme Inhand and our fell Greenholme Georgy Girl stood 3rd :-) also with a great result from Tireinon Defender wining the M&M Open Ridden.

Lovely show and really well organised. Grass a bit long for the lead rein classes in the morning producing not so elegant running but we had a lovely day and great results and my little girl got her first NCPA brass at her first POYS so thrilled to bits, just need to try and get one every year now

Any plans to move more central to all the branches?

Not sure which class as I covered a few LRs but Mrs Say was unfortunately take to hospital the day before & Mrs Colles had her start time down as not before 11am in the highlighted timetable I sent her (many apologies!), but was there for the first ridden. She was about 30mins away when we started the LR class but rather than delay the ring it was decided to go ahead with me, as all the ponies were assembled.
The grass was rather long but that may be something we can discuss with Rodbaston in the future.
Re central location - unfortunately show venues are governed by availability, size, cost, and ease of access. No show ground will suit everyone and will always only be local to a couple of branches. The M6 corridor does tick most of the boxes & Rodbaston currently ticks them all.
The Trustees are always conscious of members concerns and believe me they do spend a long time exploring all the options & weighing up the pros & cons.
The Spring Spectacular is a Main Branch show that we hold in a central location & although we did not have a Main Branch Open Show in 2014, this was due to concentrating our efforts (& finances!) on POYS for this special year.

Any plans to move more central to all the branches? Just this morning I was watching my VERY Minature Dachshund (6" at the shoulder, lets not call it a wither!) running through my ewes field of 6" tall - and dewy-damp grass. I had to commend her on how athletic she is! (I was checking sheep, she brought herself into the paddock of her own volition to 'help'). Regarding grass being too long for a novice pony, it pays to practice on all surfaces. Pony turned away in the 'rough' will have to cope! Well done Janet and team on what sounds like a super show

Janet it was the M&M LR I was referring to and thanks for response re the show location , Caroline Nelson I wasnt getting into an argument re the grass, im 5ft 2" and it was very hard running, the pony did also struggle prob more as a result of me not being sure footed as I did slip once, he is turned out on rough ground over winter and I dont have an all weather so he is only ridden in field or hacked, my daughter is only very tiny 6 yo so struggles to help him balance too, sometimes somethings are said as a positive critisism to take on board for future events and dont require negative responses, we were showing a pony not a dog.

The ground was also quite rutted in places so not easy for any small pony and jockey to negotiate regardless of where they have been turned out. otherwise I have no problems with the venue although I too would prefer it to be a bit further north, we're pretty accessible to the motorways in Lancashire but it's still a good 2 hours for us. As I said in my first post, thanks again for a lovely day, it was our first time at POYS and we'll definitely be back next year

As I said in my first post, thanks again for a lovely day, it was our first time at POYS and we'll definitely be back next year :) Kidside - my profuse apologies if you took this as a "negative response". It was, I thought, a lighthearted way of suggesting that ponies are given the chance to work on a variety of surfaces. And genuinely, I had just been laughing at my gutsy little dog, body high in the grass! As judges, we really don't worry what the L-R leader (or the In-Hand leader) has on his or her feet. (well, this one certainly doesn't). Dress practically. I have unbelievably weak ankles and knees and a lousy back, all from old injuries, so cannot 'doll up to the nines' as some manage to do. But I'd rather know that I'm comfortable and able to stay upright. Whilst I have every admiration for the 'mummies' who seem to have the ability to run their lead-rein ponies in shoes which I wouldn't be able to walk in even on a carpet, safety and comfort comes first! Comanchediva - with a very few exceptions, "two hours" is almost a local journey for me - it would probably be impossible for Show Committees to find the perfect location which suits everyone - and which suits the Show, too. Although, believe me, we do try!

Caroline, I do count myself lucky that I was born and live in Lancashire which gives us access to many fantastic shows and venues within an hour and half radius. However a two hour journey for an 8am start means getting up at 4am which isn't easy when you work hard all week to fund your hobby. Believe me, Monday was no fun at work!! Also the NCPA is the Northern Counties Accociation and in my humble opinion Staffordshire isn't a northern count (I'm sure many will disagree on that!)
Finally, all our ponies are 4 years or younger and I'm not a fan of trailing youngsters all over the country and having them stood on the lorry for hours at a time. We're off to Cumbria tomorrow and working out when to set off is a nightmare, trying to miss traffic, etc, but also not waiting around for the class for hours.
All that said Rodbaston is very close to the motorway and is a fantastic venue and we will be back next year.

Sadly, I had to turn down a (helping them out) judging app due to a prior engagement - the world famous Kelso Ram sales at which I'm a volunteer helper. And, after 50 years of show travel to fit around other stuff, I really understand about being tired, too!! C x

Caroline I am also a judge and though I wouldnt look at footwear it is normal dress, also didn't take alternative suitable footwear as didnt think the field would look like it was ready for a crop of hay being taken, under the grass the ground was very uneaven both myself and pony tripped outside the ring whilst working in TBH I dont think any footwear would have made the ground "good going", we are too in Lancashire and though 2 hrs isnt over the top we again had to be there for 8am which led to a 4.30 get up, which again dont think helped pony or child, given this we have made a decision we will wait for the NCPA to move to a more suitable location for us, love the NCPA and this is not a reflection on the society but as comanchediva has said NCPA is northern and south Staffordshire is Midlands, but then North of England shows are in Lincoln so enough said

Bear in mind that, these days, I have nothing to do with the NCPA except for the honour of judging for them on occasion. Many, many years ago (when I lived in Cheshire) my wonderful owner, the Late Mr Arthur Smith, (Warfe Stud) was, (I think I'm correct in saying), the NCPA President.

kidside - it is a shame that you wont be attending POYS in the future, but the NCPA has lots of shows so I am sure that one of the venues will suit you - the Spring Spectacular has loads of classes for LR & younger riders so should suit your needs and is only an hour from Lancashire, so do put March 21st in your diary for 2015
The name stems from the original very small association that was set up by a group of like minded breeders from the Cheshire/Yorkshire areas, but you would probably be surprised at how far round the country (including Scotland, Wales & the Isle of Man) that our members travelled to attend the show.
I am glad that others thought the journey was worthwhile & will be back.
