Taking my welsh section A to North West Championships next month and I'm wanting to clip him, what are judges views on in hand ponies being clipped? legs and face left on Thanks Not only Judges views, but the Rules of your Society! Rule 9.7.2 - Animals, 3 years old and under including foals must not be body clipped for showing purposes. Long hairs under the jawlineand those protruding from the ear may be trimmed off leaving as natural a line as possible. Whiskers around the muzzle may be trimmed. 9.7.3 - Animals 4 years and over, which have been clipped for winter activities can be shown. Legs must not be clipped. Excerpt taken from page 10, current WPCS Judging & Showing Handbook.

As Caroline has said.
Also if you are leaving the head on try to make it neat, can you take half a head off to the bridle line?? It will make the overall picture so much better, there's nothing worse than the ones that get to the top of the neck then stop.

Thank you both, he is 6. We are going to leave his head on but blend it in, it won't be a straight cut at his neck.

There are always lots of ponies clipped!! Need to time it right and blend in legs and as Philippa says blend to the cheek pieces using your bridle as a guide.
We're taking our Fell but if he's woolly he's staying that way I'm afraid!

My 10yr old sec a has a half face mini V bib to show in winter until he gets fully clipped at start of feb, the highland has a trace BUT as per his society he has his face left on as he is a beardy breed, if i had a foal or anything under 4 or not ridden then they would have a discreetly trimmed jaw line, babies do not need full jaw and neck clipping x
