I have been doing some reading on the benefits of feeding my ponies salt in their morning and evening feeds.
I would appreciate it if anyone out there could share their knowledge and experience of feeding salt. I have read that they should have approximately 2 teaspoons of salt per day and that this will aid with the following;
I have two very different ponies, a lazy Section B who is currently on TopSpec Light Balancer, D&H Competition Mix and Spillers Happy Hoof and a sharp nervy Section A, who's currently on the Balancer, Chaff and NAF Magic (still in loading period). The Section B has been slightly overweight in the past but we have just about got this under control but we find he needs the hard feeds to give him the energy. The Section A is lacking condition and topline and we're working hard to build him up in the right way.
Both ponies are in varied daily moderate exercise (ridden & lunging) and we are doing a lot of work with the Section A to bring him back into work, and trying to desensitize him, after over a year of being turned away by previous owners.
Are there any feed experts out there that could advise me as to whether the addition of salt to their diets would be beneficial to them? Also happy for you to point out any areas that's you think I may be going wrong on.
Thanks in advance

- More ‘good’ energy
- Better movement
- No more uncharacteristic ‘stopping’ at jumps
- No more 'falling asleep' (like narcilepsy)
