Hi I am currently in the process of organising a show Amateur of the Year aiming for June 2015 . Have a draft schedule which is almost available to be viewed and includes numerous sections to try include everybody within the showing world . Each section includes there own championship in the evening performance which champion and reserve both go through to supreme . We want everybody to feel like they belong there and it to be a friendly atmosphere. Next year will be an open show. Currently waiting to hear back from Equifest , Chaps & Tgca to see if they will allow us to run qualifiers. Please spread the word about this show and if want ask any questions please feel free to ask anything
Thank You xxx

June is a very busy month so I expect however hard you try you will clash with other big shows, I know our calendar is pretty full for June already!
Would be interested to see a schedule though and do you know which venue you're using yet? Good luck.

I'm interested too, but not sure how you are going to 'police' it, so to speak. Hope it does stay as genuine amateurs.......
Will look forward to details of dates, venue etc

Hi as a genuine Amateur myself and showing years after years and seeing so many people's horses not being appreciated I wanted to set a show up where TRUE amateurs can compete against each other without worrying about competing against producers/professionals. The rulings will be following the Amateur status and all entries will be being assessed for this status. I am currently in the process of finalising schedule/venues/dates etc.
Thanks x

Sounds good :-) Would need very definitive wording for 'amateur' !
Just a genuine question; can 'restricted' shows hold qualifiers for championships? Just thinking (using chaps as an example as that is what i know) that someone who is eligible for qualification under chaps rules but isn't eligible for your show, is that allowed?

Yes, in some of the amateur classes the ponies/horses can be on a producers yard and taken to the show by the producer. However, the producer cannot groom for the combination and I'm not 100% sure on this, but I don't think they can work the horse/pony in at the show for the amateur rider. Also, my understanding is that a rider is not an amateur if they ride other horses/ponies for the producer. Amateur status is not so simple!

The Amateur of the Year Show could, of course, make it's own ruling on amateur status for it's show which may or may not be the same as above .. we shall have to wait and see

Yes the Amateur status can be a very sticky one but I am looking in to it & making it as fair as I possibly can without it being just like any other show. I'm hoping for just a happy show , where people feel they can come & enjoy without the same people winning time after time (nothin against people who have been successful just want give fair shot for everybody). There is several meanings to the Amateur status so we are going to be very careful and make it clear . I myself will be doing the entries so will be seeing who/what comes in . If anybody feels they want to express how they feel all views are welcome .
Thanks x

Thanks x In my opinion amateur status should cover that the horse/pony is not produced on a show yard after the 1st January in each year. It's fine to have lessons with producers/trainers so that the combinations can improve BUT the minute the pony is produced on a professionals yard both jockey and horse should no longer be able to claim amateur status. Jockey's who ride their own or other peoples ponies that are produced should also not be classed as amateurs. My reasoning on the above is that a producer is a professional looking after, training and competing the pony/horse for an owner and usually a jockey If the owner is a person that doesn't have their own jockey, then the producer will source another jockey to ride the horse for the owner. We can see professionals riding the horse/pony in the open classes then the same horse/pony competing in an amateur class with another jockey! In my opinion not a level playing field.
