Hi All (hope this is ok admin)
this is the begging letter i have been sending out to people, can anybody help or do you know someone who can? if not why don't you join the active rider Facebook page and get bidding there are some amazing one off prizes on there.
I am trying on behalf of Jane Walker from Active Rider to help raise money for Bolton Hospice. I don't know if you have heard the story of Zoe Milton, she was a fellow horsey girl who at the age of 27 with an 18 month old son was diagnosed with terminal cancer, 8months later she died.
We are trying to raise as much money as we can in her memory, we started off asking people to donate raffle prizes but as her story spread, the response and peoples generosity was overwhelming. We decided to run flash auctions as some prizes were one off opportunities (a lesson of John Whittaker and a tour of his yard! or an evening with Ben Hobday, bidding for this is currently at an amazing £2,000) to high cost prizes of saddles, bridles, rug, beauty vouchers, holidays abroad, the list really is endless. The most popular auctions have been lessons with famous coaches from every discipline.
We originally set a £1,000 target which was reached with a day! This was raised to £10,000 which again we reached so we dared to raise it to £20,000 which we have smashed within 4 weeks! so we thought sod it lets go for £50,000, we are currently at an amazing £48,000 and are determined to get to 50k. Sod it lets get past the 50k!
We are shamelessly asking for prizes of any description or even if trainers would be willing to give up their time for lessons or horse and rider makeovers anything that can help us to reach our target and kick ass for our Zoe.
We would be really grateful if you could help (or if you know someone who can!) We understand if you can't we know its a big ask and a wee bit cheeky, but if you don't ask you don't get!
If you go on the Active Rider Facebook page you can see how well the horsey community are pulling together, this is a link to the current auction items www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=oa.10152497637219821&type=1 and below is from the just giving page
Recently Zoe cancelled our October Dressage Diva camp as she was diagnosed with Cancer, she underwent palliative care at Bolton Hospice
We need you to please dig deep and donate anything you can – if you have any ideas for fund raising at our final Active Rider camps in 2014 please speak to Jane otherwise please just donate below.
This is her story – Zoe bought her horse Romeo as a gangly 3 yr old, she was pregnant at the time, so backed him when Charlie her son was born in January 2013.
In December 2013 Zoe was diagnosed with 2b cervical cancer which had spread to her tissues. She had an intense course of radio and chemotherapy, but before her check up, she was crippled bed ridden with pain. Sadly this turned out to be cancer in the lymph nodes deep in the abdomen, during her second course of radiotherapy, Zoe became hospitalised with a urine infection & had a further scan which then showed cancer in the liver.
Romeo had been her goal through this cancer, to compete him as soon as she recovered from chemo/radiotherapy.
Zoe celebrated her 28th birthday 16th Aug 2014.
We suggested fund raising so that any money that Active Rider raises would help towards the upkeep of Romeo until Zoe and the family decided the best outcome for him, however Zoe preferred fundraising for Bolton Hospice as Romeo will be looked after just fine. She was reduced to happy tears at the thought of what we are trying to do.
Rest in Peace Zoe - she passed at 6.15am on 21.9.14 - we are continuing the fund raising until Mid November 2014 - all support gratefully received. We reached your initial target of £10k on 20th Sept and we are pleased you were whispered this by mum Caroline.
Guess what Zoe - we are going to kick the ass of this target for you!
Cake for all if you got to the end!
