I'm taking my warmblood palomino filly to do a NCPA foal show.shes my first baby and doing well continuing with her training I've had had he 10 days all in the early stages of course but she leads ties up and stands to be groomed feet plaited. She's good to trot up but as to be expected easily bored and starts to see it as a rather fun game best way to teach a young one and also advice for taking her in the ring turnout

I do a lot of in hand work on a rope halter with my babies, getting them very light in hand going forwards, backwards and turns on the forehand. As you say, they're easily bored so very short sessions only. One reason I have mine in at night is so that I HAVE to handle them twice a day if only to come in and out, sometimes just that if I'm in a hurry, other times a bit more halter work in the yard on the way. But even when rushing in and out they have to behave, lead nicely and stand still when asked. And once established in the routine, I don't let them come in and out on their own but always led, I think it encourages too much independence of thought - either they are working with me in which case they are expected to do as I ask, or they are free in the field or box to do their own thing at will.
