No contest for me, we had a fylde and after 12 mths our pony just gave up, she became the witch from hell, after 4 months in a Black Country saddle were scoring over 70% in dressage and jumping like a little stag! where the fylde bridge and the lack of any protection from stuffing was a serious problem for us and can honestly say we have never looked back

We never managed to find a Black Country to fit our pony (we struggled witha lot of different makes!) but I would always choose one over Fylde for the same reason as truthseaker - Fylde don't provide enough protection for the pony's back from the framework/internal fittings.

Ive had both and liked them both. Black country seem a bit harder to come by.

There are lots of nice showing saddles out there that offer a proper fitting service, a good tailored fit and more protection for the horse from the tree than do many of the very very close contact saddles. The latter often tip back and with the thin, hard foam panels they really dig into the horse's back, you can often see the dents in the backs of horses and ponies when they are stipped in the ring. And yes, most of these good showing saddles are rare as hens teeth second hand, we have huge demand for our which we just can't supply.

We have swapped to a made to measure Black Country saddle from a Fylde Samantha that was fitted to our 12hh- much more comfy for the pony and you can see the difference in his actions and freedom of movement - they came out to me within 24hours to fit - excellent service. The leather is so much softer and pliable too, gives the jockey a nice seat as well.

I have yet to buy a Flyde saddle that fitted properly, before I knew better I bought several for different ponies! then when I bought a highland that proved difficult to find a saddle for, I had a saddle custom made...for not a lot more than the cost of a Flyde! I showed the saddler the Flyde I had been using, he was not very complimentary. There are other saddles . out there, Black Country are excellent, I had one for a jumping pony

I think it should be about what fits the pony best, not brand

I think it should be about what fits the pony best, not brand Absolutely agree with the above,...however the poster was asking for opinions on two different brands,..hence all the replies between these two particular ones!

Black Country every time! Far better fit as much easier to adjust and fit to any shaped pony! Fantastic back up service too!
