I can't decide which would be easiest in bad weather if pony is out all day - snuggy jams or stable rug to go under a turnout rug. Any words of wisdom? Thank you

I would say snuggy as long as it has the turnout belly

The problem that I've found with them is despite the rugs being very useful as an under layer, and the turnout belly is good for keeping ponies clean. I found that as the belly isn't detachable the whole rug needs washing just to clean the belly. When I contacted snuggy hoods about this and asked if it would be possible for them to provide more belly attachments I was met with a very rude and snotty reply accusing me of trying to use their rugs with other makes!!?? Who doesn't!!!!!?
So since that dreadful encounter, the point at which my snuggy became un useable I've never replaced it. Great customer service snuggy hoods, how to lose a customer ..............

On my rugs, I've made a cut across the front of the belly and added velcro so you can separate the belly to wash it, I think they are missing a trick with that as I would certainly buy several spare bellys!

Neither , if you think your pony is going to be cold , try the premier equine rugs with the different liners - will def keep your pony warm...

Ah ponymum I have been looking at these and they look good - not the cheapest but would you recommend them? I am SO fed up with having to change 4 rugs on poor Jacob each night and think he has the grumps with it all as well (this keeping a coat for Olympia stuff is no joke!!) I always think Premier Equine are good quality so would be interested in what you think about this system. Thanks x

Can't comment on the premier equine ones but we use the Rambo equivalent which I would highly recommend. I had a moan at Horseware when we were at Hickstead in the summer for stopping making the Rambo's in pony sizes as old pony is going into his 11th winter in his and it is still going strong and wanted a new lightweight Rambo that I could attach all the liners to for new pony. Anyway, they had a look for me at the warehouse after the show and found a few remaining pony sizes which they then sent on from Ireland. It is so much easier than having a mountain of different rugs.

You buy the outershell and then just buy different inners dependent on how warm you want them to be xx

Thanks Michelle - on the basis that Chloe is trying to keep him in tropical temperatures I am going to order some today!!! Anything to save myself the effort of trying to do the top rug up on top of all the others and going 'breathe in Jacob'!!!!

Rambo are far nicer rugs than Premier Equine, and about the same price now (I bought a PE Trio when they were more reasonably priced as less 'known', but quickly sold it - they are lovely rugs when new and out of the packet, and have some features I do like such as a more generous neck cover and the elastic gussets plus padded tail flap) however I found they rubbed and are SOOOOOO heavy when wet!
Rambo Duo - never looked back, I love them. The various liners are ever so lightweight and easy to change, and don't slip even if you have to double them up. Worth absolutely every penny - even the extra £40 I paid to have the next size up neck cover so it was a bit more generous (seems to help prevent any loss of mane)
I couldn't afford another Duo for my new pony, so I bought all the liners (can occasionally get them second hand) and then bought an Amigo 1200d 100g to use as the 'duo' outer, plus separate hood again. Not quiiiiite as nice as the Rambo, but a lot cheaper!
I too wish Rambo (and the 100g) Amigo were available in pony sizes. My Sec A has a couple of rhino wugs which are fab for her, but oh I wish I could get hold of a 100g for her! I'm thinking of butchering one to the right size myself... #unsure

Newlandwelshies - perhaps you could set up a photobucket account, take pictures of all your stock types and post the link to the file on here? I know there would be a lot of people interested. Do you also do the turnout hoods and heads etc?
