Has anybody any idea or dealings with Yorkshire Fog Grass Hay and where to purchase it from. I have a little native pony who has had Laminitis and the Vet has suggested that I try and get hold of some Yorkshire Fog Grass Hay as it is very low in sugars. I realise you can soak hay and it takes all of or most of the sugars out, but i am looking to feed this when the ground is frozen and unable to soak the hay. Thank you

I have something similar which is brilliant for ponies prone to laminitis - they can eat plenty and fill themselves up with no ill effects, it is cut from our stewardship land which never gets treated with fertilisers etc, it is low protein/low sugar - however, I only make it in large square bales and do not deliver so depends where you are really - I am near Wetherby, West Yorkshire.

Many thanks

Thank you for your reply. Are you able to tell me what sort of grasses are in it. Also what size are bales and how much. Many thanks "Yorkshire Fog" IS the grass type. As Anniewrose has said, it is the very soft but often stemmy, uncultivated herbage with a soft 'head', which you see waving in the wind on old pasture and moorland - hence the name. Basically, try to get hold of hay made from very long ley meadow grass (pasture which has been down to grass for a great many years) and has not recently been artificially fertilised. Ask around for "soft" meadow hay - or perhaps use the expression 'sheep' hay. There has been an abundance of hay made this year so you should find some nice clean soft hay without too much difficulty. Whereabouts are you? I too have made some super meadow hay this year and do have some spare. (3/4 sized round bales, organically fertilised) - Am 60 miles due north of Carlisle up the A7 from the M6, also 55 miles north of Newcastle.

Yes i am aware that Yorkshire Fog is a grass type Caroline Nelson. I was just asking what grasses are in the Stewardship land as i understand it is not just Fog Grass. Based in North Lincs but transport is not a problem. Thank you
