Is there such a thing? I really need a bit of help, advice and top tips to help me and possibly anyone else who is a newbie ease themselves into the mind blowing complexities of affiliated showing.
I am not completely new having taken the step to go as far as Equifest for the past two years but I dont want to waste money and time with societies and associations that are not suitable. Do you have to join them all??
We now have a wonderful Welsh A that was previously successfully competed (HOYS qualified and placed) in Open Ridden classes but who is still OK to compete in LR and First Ridden which is where we would like to start concentrating.
So my main questions are around which societies I should join or should I just compete as a non-member for now. Preferences for NPS, PUK or BSPS? What is a 'qualifying' member. Can I just pay for my 8yo daughter to join rather than us both? What is the showing register?
Do you have to be a member of a particular association or society to compete and qualify for HOYS and RIHS?
It is all waaaay too confusing!

The Showing Register is a good place to start. Speak to them (they are helpful) and/or go to one of their clinics. They are for people exactly like you.

If you want to do RIHS M&M LR & FR qualifiers you must be a member of BSPS
You need to be the adult showing member & your daughter needs to be a junior member & the pony registered with them
This will also cover you for HOYS qualifiers
If you just want to compete at affiliated classes that are NOT RIHS or HOYS qualifiers then you can do so as a non member, but would need to join if you were in a qualifying place for the BSPS, PUK Championships & wished to compete at them.
To qualify for NPS championships you must be a showing member of NPS before the class.

What about PUK? is there any point in joining them? I have a show this weekend - a welsh pony and cob society show with a variety of qualifiers including PUK.....

I join what championships are nearest to me, then the relevant ones for qualifiers
Next season I will be joining BSPS as there championships are closest, and also NPS to do the RI m&m workers and dressage qualifiers.
I qualified my a for both bsps and NPS last weekend, my NPS "ticket" stated on the back I didn't need to be a member to qualify but must be a 2015 life or qualifying member to enter the final

If you want to enter the qualifying classes at PUK championships then you must join (but do not have to be a member BEFORE you qualify)
PUK membership covers HOYS LR & FR classes too, but NOT RIHS
Sorry, I haven't seen the 2015 rules for NPS so they must have changed (unless that ruling is for winter qualifiers only) & this also covers HOYS but not RIHS quals
OP - if I was you I would first decide which championships i wanted to go to, join that society & take it from there unless you definitely want to do RIHS & HOYS quals for LR & FR & then the only society that covers both is BSPS

Hi mcnaughty are you going to the SEWPC Show on Sunday by chance? If you are we are going as well and if I can find you would be very happy to say hello and chat about what you might want to do. Without sounding pushy we have been showing for over 20 years and my daughter is a BSPS judge and I am on our local committee so would be happy to help any way we can in terms of advice and suggestions. PM if you prefer!! Pony in my picture will be going!
