Just wonder if anyone has lit their outdoor school with sufficient light to ride during the dark evenings of winter? Don't need to be able to jump, so it doesn't need to be lit up like a football stadium!!
Ideally solar lights but I do have power points not too far away if it needs to be plug in electric. What are the do's and dont's, and what makes/ products out there work??
Any thoughts and help much appreciated
Just thought I should say, the arena is approx 40 X 20, with fencing set back about 3 foot all the way around, so a post for anything to be fixed to would not me too much of a problem!

First thing is to check planning regs in your area as you may be limited to what direction you can have them pointing in, how bright they can be or hours of use.
We are lucky as the arena has stables each side so is sufficiently lit by security lights.

Thank you, yes I know this can be problem, and needs checking, but we are fine on that score, and as we are way out in the country, and the lights will only be on for an hour or so, and not regularly - our neighbours will not be a problem!!

'Our neighbours are too far away to be affected by any lights', is actually what I meant to put!!

have a look at this componay, i bought some cracking 'shed' lights to use in my stable last year! The were bright and they worked without fail all through winter. Im sure they do 'security' lights www.powerbee.co.uk/

You may still have a problem as in my local area planning has been refused for lights in even remote areas on the grounds it can confuse aircraft (though it baffles me how its ok for houses to be completely lit up at Christmas if this is the case!!)
Security lights without PIRS would be good, you can get solar ones. A friend has them at fence height pointing in and down and about 75% of the area is covered quite brightly, bit of a compromise but she was refused planning for anything permanent or on poles (as above)
If planning is refused I know people will fix lights to their stable yard or parking area which 'accidently' beam outwards across the arena lol

Oh wow Toaster, thank you - I will look into all the options then! I was contemplating the planning regs following sjw87 remarks about it, and wondered if I could have 'temporary' light positioned on the end of a shed lol!! It could then be easily removed if necc! i did find a company on line who does solar powered spotlights on tripods, all great, but no prices and when they start listing places one can hire from, it makes me nervous of the cost!!! I hate hiring, it is money down the drain haha!!
