I work in a dementia home doing activities, one day I took some old tack in for them to clean, I had one lady who was able to tell me the points of a saddle, and considering she had never had a horse or a pony I was very impressed. Louise you can never start them too early

Enjoy it while they want to help. Before long they will want to do anything BUT clean tack!!

Tell them that if they complete their task in an hour you will let them out of the cage for 10 minutes . And may I say that it's so refreshing to find someone else who believes in Infantile Internment - never did mine any harm .

I was wondering about the state the carpet ended in.. Pretty grim, we did start with newspaper but the cat ran away with it. Too cold in our house to be anywhere but in front of the fire! It was worth it, both boys got clear round rosettes, and William had his first go off the lead in public (in the 20cm class, in walk!). He didn't really see the point of following the numbers in order round the jumps, but got it eventually when he realised he wasn't going to get a rosette if he didn't do it in the right order!

you will eventually reap the rewards of their enthusiasm when they are older but we all have to go through the pain first!
