Just wondering, people with several ponies, what do you do insurance wise.
Is there such thing as a group insurance? I have tried to look into it but to no avail.
Having quite a few ponies I am spending a small fortune on insurance for each individual.
Anyone who has a cheaper alternative?
Thanks in advance.

When I had three ponies I qualified for a 'multi horse' discount from Petplan
It wasn't a big reduction but it was pleasantly noticeable when the monthly costs went out

Try the NFU, at one point they did include this in the house insurance, no idea if they still do this

I don't insure. We have public liability on the farm policy, but other than that, we just sort of hope that the chances of getting a vet's bill every year for things that would be covered by insurance that is higher than the policy costs is very unlikely. We have had a big bill or two over the past 5-10 years, but I still think we are probably better off.

I don't insure mine either. I make sure I have third party for them though somewhere, and otherwise reckon with the numbers I have it would overall be cheaper to deal with things as they crop up than to pay full insurance for them all.

My granddaughter had to have a leg reconstruction after she was kicked, not maliciously by the horse but while it was sedated for clipping. She was off work for 12 months and to date has had 5 operations with another one looming. A claim was made but no compensation or help towards her monthly commitments was ever paid out because the owner hadn't ticked the required box for the extra insurance cover.

im very sorry that you Grand daughter was badly injured !!!!!and that is a very good point that you made ,,,,, and slightly off track from OP , but in that situation would it not come down to ones own insurance covering you , ie , personal accident ,,, not critisizing , just a query !!!

All horses need a liability insurance and you will find more shows asking for it, and really if going anywhere with them or even just in the field accidents happen, you dont need to insure for vets cover thats your choice but unless your sat on a few million in case you get sued ....... BHS GOLD cover is perfect and £6 a month ish and acceptable by most shows

I would contact Julie Andrews. I did for the first time recently and she saved me a fortune. Unfortunately one of my mares has had 4 serious injuries in the past 4 or 5 years. She's definitely cost her insurers over £15k in this time. I thought I'd be clever and not insure my other two thinking "how bad can it get" - very bad! One horse diagnose with bone spavin and another jumped out the field and got a bad hock injury. The bone spavin horse is now insured with my mares insurers (KBIS) who are very good and pay out within days but the premiums are expensive so when their insurance is up for renewal I'll be speaking to Julie as I cut KBIS's costs by 50% in using her for my foals insurance - she does have a bit on her website for multi-policies so if there's a good one out there I'm sure she'll find it!

Thanks everyone!
I do have public liability for myself with Society memberships.
My luck with vet fees isn't the best, I don't have stacks of spare money or savings for big bills so I really do need vet cover. Would be great if a company did several horses included in one policy to cover vet fees. As chances are not every horse in the policy would ever require a pay out.
