For riding horse classes, are you best off getting red whatever colour the horse is or do you wear the correct colour for the horse, Im only asking this as every class i have watched all the horses seem to wear red apart from the odd few.

Following this with interest... We have a chestnut to bring out this year (hopefully!), and I'm not keen on red with his shade of orange, and not found many RH pics to compare different chestnuts. Also, daughter has a brown tweed with self coloured collar. I'm thinking a brown hat with it (as I would for native and Shp classes), but it's our first season in the horse classes so not sure how correct this would be?

Morning Cupcake 909 and Norwalk, attached information from BSHA regarding dress code as this is the association you would join for riding horses at affiliated level and if you wanted to try your hand at RI/Hoys classes. You can get a couple of day tickets for the year but you can't qualify RI/Hoys on those. COUNTY SHOWS – RIDING HORSES Bowlers for gentlemen, navy or black hunting cap for ladies with ribbons inside Jackets – ladies blue, black or tweed jacket with neat collar and tie – gentlemen tweed Please remember that most societies only allow hats with the safety harness attached, also rules on hats change next year as EN1384 will no longer meet the standard. If you are buying a new hat now make sure it is PAS015. A new European standard will follow at sometime as well. With regard to browbands, any colour is allowed. Usually, the browband will complement the jacket and tie don't go overboard on bling. A good red for the deep chestnut colour is scarlet. Keep it to the minimum as an accent colour rather than the main colour. Royal blue works well with the scarlet and/or gold and white. If your horse has white on its face don't use ice white use a bridal white/winter white so that the white markings don't look grubby. Hope this helps and good luck.

Thanks for that R0xy93 - so it looks like a brown hat wouldn't be acceptable with a brown tweed? Think our current navy would look odd, and I've never really liked velvet collars for adults... Hmm, decisions decisions...!

I know people who use Brown hats and brown tweeds in the natives but everyone i know in the riding horse/Hack classes also do the srt so they have a blue hat as in the srt you wear a navy hat so one hat for both classes saves money. But it is completely up to you what you wear x

Hmm, decisions decisions...! You could have the velvet collar removed .. should be tweed underneath the brown velvet .. keep collar plain, looks more adult in RH classes
I can make your browband in any colours but would recommend not too fancy, not covered in bling and to match both the tweed jacket and chestnut horse
Your current tweed must have some other colours in it/overcheck, and it would be ideal to incorporate those colours into your browband if they suit the chestnut too which I guess they do otherwise you would not be using that jacket to show the RH in .... if you email me a photo of your chestnut horse and a close up of your tweed jacket, I shall be happy to advise .. prices £26 - £36 for RH browband either 1" wide or 3/4" wide, any length:

Rosie from Silverburn Browbands is excellent and has been shortlisted for the BETA mail order company of the year for the second year in a row despite being a very small business

I'm so glad I've just seen this thread. We've not long had the above foal and i really don't think red will suit his colouring at all!! But every last one of the nn unders at hoys were in red browbands. Having said that I'm going to swim away from the tide and get an emerald green one for him. No doubt by the time he's ridden he'll be in the expected red
