Hi, I am a newbie to affiliated showing and have started doing BSPS. In some classes I have been looking at says if you are restricted to wear an armband. Can anyone advise me on this. What do they mean by restricted and where would I get one of these armbands from? Is there any particular colour I need? please no criticism I am new and have no one to advise me. thanks x

troyboy89 - there is no special colour & you just make your own. Most people use a piece of ribbon tied round their arm or a hair scrunchy (handy because it is elastic so fits any size arm!)
It is best if the colour shows up well against your jacket as this helps the stewards do their job when giving out qualification cards, rosettes etc & also recording the results correctly.
You need to check the BSPS rules regarding whether or not your animal is eligible for "restricted" classes but the basic rule is that the animal must not have been placed 1st to 8th at RIHS, HOYS or Olympia in the current or previous year for the relevant class (Pretty Polly placing is excluded)
These classes are held during the winter season for you to qualify for the Winter Championships & the 3 highest will qualify, or the 4 highest in a mixed height class.
Hope this helps

Happy to help & good luck with your first shows. Do ask the steward or show secretary if you are unsure of something (try to pick a quiet moment & ask in advance of what it is you need to know). Most winter shows are run by people who have a good level of knowledge but sometimes the summer shows draft in less experienced help & they may not always get the answer right.
Best advice is read the schedule thoroughly (people often miss championships they are eligible for, because they didn't realise) & boring as it sounds, do read the rule book for the section that is relevant to the classes you are doing. None of us were born knowing about showing & everyone should always remember that it may be someone's first show.
