Our section D was cut late last year at 4 years old, hes a good lad but still laddish. Never malicious or nasty but he cant help himself so nips us and other horses all the time then flinches because he knows he shouldn't. He drives the other horses on our yard crazy because he just wants to play all the time or herd them!! He's ruined another livery owners rugs which I've had to replace ripping one to shreds, he knows not to bite and tries to contain himself by sticking his tongue out and giving it to us, he walks everywhere with his tongue out...completely mental! He still poops in a pile in the field and in the stable Hormone levels are on the high side of normal, teeth checked and fine He acts coltish, he postures/snorts/stamps his feet and takes time to settle to work. We dont have any mares where we are so no idea how he'd handle that I've been reading up on RigCalm and wondered if it might help or something similar??

It can take a long time for them to get out of their behaviour learned as colts, especially if cut when mature like yours but I'm sure he'll get there in time. I've had them done at that age and above and they have all eventually turned into geldings that behave as such. You don't say how late - it could have been Dec and it's still only Feb now.
I can't speak for supplements, never tried any for this purpose.

I have heard of a few people using Rig Calm, but i think it is illegal if was to be tested at shows, if i read correct i remember trying to find something and that popped up. He should soon grow out of it our gelding was cut at 6 he is now 19 and still has his moments!!

He was cut in April of last year sarahp, so I was hoping over winter things would settle down but no sign of it 'yet' One of the other livery owners has had a little moan about him being the bane of her geldings life (lol)
Would love to hear some feedback on Rigcalm if anyone's used it

Sorry, you did say "late last year", so I assumed some time in the autumn when the flies had gone. Maybe have a chat with a vet, preferably not the one who did the op. I'm not a vet but I understand that if more tissue (not testicular) is left than usual it can lead to higher hormone levels than might be desirable.

I use agnus castus for a riggy gelding and it does certainly help. I use it as a liquid under the brand name hormonise. The powder can sometimes be unpalatable.
My boy lives in a mixed herd and does try and mount mares and play rough with the boys but they all belong to me. I do appreciate the other owner's issues though - I tolerate ripped rugs etc but I'm not sure I'd be happy if it was someone else's horse causing it. Likewise, they get nicks and scrapes from playing rough and you have to remember that even a small cut from a kick, if done in the wrong place can cost hundreds in vets bills and result in box rest (so more money/time for the owner) and time off work for the horse.

I meant he was cut late sarahp aged 4 last year, i wasn't very clear was I?
I'l read up on that sjw87 thank you. And yep true if it was my rugs i'd be miffed plus injury is a worry. Luckily he never kicks he actually backs his bum up to the other geldings like a mare would, but they've kicked him more than a few times just to get rid of him!!
