My pony has been living out all winter with a friend, i dont think shes been getting bucket feed but has been getting hayledge. I brought her in about 5 days ago, she's on hayledge and 3 small bucket feeds a day (top spec balancer). She had the runs as soon as she come but i put it down to - stress of travelling and moving somewere new stress of being stabled when shes been living out (although she doesnt seem very stressed - she is quite content) different hayledge being put on hard feed
I thought it would go after a few days and iv tried giving her some bran (didnt work) but were now on the 6th day and shes still the same. Should i be worried?

topspec balancer should only be a cup full and be introduced by splitting a cup twice a day in with feed to then moving to a cup in each so maybe it is that, i moved my mare recently also and she was a bit unsettled for first few days but after that has calmed down now and no problems.

I introduced it slowly, as i would with any other feed. Shes now up to her recommended ammount

I would change to hay if possible or feed haylage balancer or a probiotic alongside your feed and see if that helps.

As above but could also be worm migration!

As above but could also be worm migration! pony has been regularly wormed and was wormed the day she was stabled with equest pramox, also surely if this was the case wouldnt she of had the runs prior to being stabled also?

Sometimes you can get "the runs" after you have wormed as this is a result of the worms dying and the amimal taking a reaction to the dead worms, but if it keep on i would get a vet is the pony drinking ok ?

I just know there is a lot of worm migration about at the moment, it may well be the case as stated above re the reaction to dead worms. It can affect them in different ways. The move and change in diet could have set the migration off. Complex things guts, id be asking the vet if it went on too long.

Sorry, just to add that even though pony is wormed regularly doesnt mean it wont have eggs that hatch especially if its been outdoors for a length of time.

Think ill do a worm count so i can (hopefully) rule that out. Went back down around tea time to feed and her poos looked less 'sloppy' than they have been. If it carries on much longer i will call the vet

i personally would get her off the haylage , get her onto hay and give her a Probiotic ,,,,, i personally hate haylage , its so alien for their digestive system , they would never fin dit in the wild ,,,, thats not directed at you personally , just my opinion , i hope you get her sorted,,, also dont let it go on too long they can get seriously dehydrated with the runs if left untreated by a vet

Our pony had a touch of the runs - think it was caused by too much grass but I used a probiotic by NAF it is has all cleared up.

Good news, ponies droppings are almost back to normal, still a little sloppy but nowhere near as bad as they were!
