for a stable light to have effect on a horses coat you need to have at least a 200w bulb , and 16hrs of light , aday , to see results in about 60 days ,,, so this process needs to have started about 2 months ago to have had an effect

Clip away. The reason people don't clip after January was a hunting thing as they wanted coats back to turm out. I have clipped at the end of March and had fab coats fir windsor!

if you clip i would rug and hot rag with olive oil everday until coat is back, took ours two weeks until had a gleaming summer coat.

thanks so much everyone for your comments makes me feel better im not alone. The only thing im worried about is he is casting his coat but he is still really woolley especially under his belly but im so worried of affecting his summer coat, i have clipped before after april on a mare with a summer coat and from what i can remember that was fine didn't affect this horses coat but with him doing hoys/rihs qualifiers i don't want a dull coat or to affect his coat but his first rihs qualifier is a few weeks into april and he will still be really woolley?

I have clipped as late as April to no ill effect. Just make sure you rug up enough afterwards in order to avoid cat hairs etc. Good luck
