I've a horse that can't seem to get his balance round right hand side bends, he is ok on left bends but I've tried bedding him in well with shavings but still can't seem to master the corners. Apart from bedding him in with straw with loose bankings or even taking the partition out of my double trailer I'm lost for ideas, we travel out 2/4 times a month and he doesn't sweat up or have an issue with being in the trailer apart from his balance. Can't buy a wagon just yet but it is an option in the future. All suggestions welcome x

I had a mare that did this on right hand bends. The only thing that helped was taking the partition out so she could balance herself diagonally across the trailer. Good luck it's no fun when they do this x
Edited to add she was no better in a waggon.

Is this in an if or Williams trailer by chance? My gelding had an identical issue. Yet he will travel in a Sinclair trailer on the passenger side.... yet on the drivers side he can't cope...

Years ago I had one who was fine on one side in a Sinclair but not on the other. Mine had a rubber curtain for the bottom half of the partition, and she was fine when she could spread the legs on that side under the partition, but unhappy on the other side of the trailer where she couldn't because they were up against the wall. I was explained to me that they stand on the two legs on the same side and spread those on the other side out to balance, so if prevented from doing this they find it difficult to balance and can panic, as mine did. She needed a wider space for her hinds in a lorry too.

I have a mare who does this when travelled in the right hand side but doesn't move at all on the left hand side. Exactly the same issue with right hand turns. I know of quite a few others that have been fine like this too. Not ideal if only travelling one or if one is bigger than the other but I always felt it was safer on the 'wrong' side travelling well than on the correct side thrashing about. Might be worth a try.

Hi, I suffered with this problem for about 2 years with my old horse. He could only travel on the passenger side and never ever the drivers side as he would staggering up the wall. When he was in the passenger side he could spread his legs under the partition to balance himself. My new horse does this in the horse lorry when travelling horizontal and again took us a while to realise that because we had a partition that went to the floor he again was staggering up the partition as he couldn't balance himself and as soon as we gave him more space he stopped doing it. Some horses just need the extra space to balance themselves. We never thought we would be able to travel ours long distances because of that problem but For us this worked. Hope this helps
