My boy is just starting to shed his coat now, we have a show at the beginning of April and I need his coat as nice as possible!! The problem is he had mudrash from hunting on his belly and legs, you can't tell so much on his legs as his hair is long but his belly has grown back in his summer coat so it twice as long and a different colour! He also has one on his neck and bum, do I clip it and hope it grows back or hope his coat comes through so you can't tell? Anyone else had a similar problem?! my boy is just starting to shed his coat now, we have a show at the beginning of April and I need his coat as nice as possible!! Depends what he is. I certainly wouldn't be clipping an M&M now and tbh if he's started to throw his coat I would be thinking twice about clipping also.
Look at it this way. It's one show in April, not HOYS!!!

Groom him! April is over 3 weeks away, he'll look completely different if you start on him now. And if the weather warms up again like the end of last week give him a bath, I'll be bathing my hairy two year old on Saturday unless it's freezing

Thank you, he is a 14hh worker but I'm doing the search for a star with him, I was only going to trim the long circular patches on him as it is soo long and dark compared to the rest of his body! He has 3 rugs on at night and if it is sunny he goes out without a rug on, I groom him thoroughly every night and have been hot clothing him. He's on linseed and oil too! I'm determined he will look right haha

Personally, I would clip him as he is a worker and not an M&M. Best of luck in April!

Get a furminator an do that once a day. I have a Dartmoor who was supposed to be clipped in feb but couldn't be done and I have shows commencing april, his coat is coming out. make sure your pony has a rug with silky lining to flatten the hair but get combing it out. nothing beats a good grooming regime and it also brings out a good shine when you groom thoroughly.

Thank you all! Your tips are very helpful he is on oil and linseed in his feed aswell as baileys balancer, alfa, chopped grass and lots of energy food! He has a nylon rug on underneath 3 other rugs and a hood! I don't expect to qualify but I want him to look as good as possible. I'm grooming him for a good 20 minutes every night then hot clothing every other night, he also had a good bath today. Any other tups to get his coat through as soon as poss?

Cut down on the number of rugs and Leave light on in stables till approx 10 pm .length of daylight is main trigger for ponies to shed there winter coat.
