Does anyone have any tips they would like to share regarding getting a horses coat 'show-ready'? My coloured cob was clipped in November. She is fed well (speedi-beet, brewers yeast, chaff and lo cal balancer), with micronised linseed on top of this, groomed daily and rugged when needed. However, her coat feels dry and coarse and is covered in cat hairs, particularly over her white bits (she is a coloured and her white areas are vast!!). Please share any hints you may have to help get a smooth glossy finish - which has been no issue for my chestnut sport horse.

It does vary from horse to horse, but I like to clip later than this. Ideally from Jan to mid-Feb and then rug up. Your horse may not be warm enough.

I would clip off the cat hairs with a grader on small clippers if you are going to show now & just make the best of it until proper summer coat comes xx

I would feed some oils to get some condition into her skin and coat, carefully clip off cat hairs and lots and lots of grooming with plenty of elbow grease. I have a pony who doesn't clip well, coat grows in all directions and she always feels almost stubbly as clippers never seem to get close enough. I found good baths with a conditioning shampoo using a body brush in circular movements helped loosen the stubbly bits.
If she has cat hairs she maybe wasn't quite warm enough.

I would clip again now with a coarse blade. Sounds like the coat has just not come through yet but those cat hairs are stubborn so and sos!
