As for not smiling when you win. Through a friend of a friend I know a mother daughter combination that have done very very well at LR but I have to say that every single picture I have ever seen of that child with numerous red ribbons, championship sashes and trophies that kid never cracks a smile! Not entirely sure whether she is just a very grumpy kid or she really does not want to be there! Real shame. That cracked me up Mcnaughty!! LOL! We are off to Windsor on Saturday - 25 entered for the M&M FR! Rebecca and I have agreed that if we get a 10th we will be delighted but quite frankly, as it is our first big show doing FR, I will be pleased if she performs the show we have practiced and comes out smiling ;-)

sorry if this sounds mean - but what really bugs me is when people win and place photos of themselves all over social media, crowing about winning and then it transpires they had to win because they were the only ones in the class!!!!! I'm sorry - I just don't get it. Isn't it better to make a joke about it and say you won against some really stiff competition - yourself!!!!

we just got back from our first ever royal windsor and although we were rosette-less i can honestly say it was one of the loveliest shows we have ever been to. we were pleased with our marks and the pony held his own in a massive top quality class, he was such a good boy and we had a great time. it's not always about the rosettes!

Totally agree Julie - we spend 3 days at RWHS as Chloe was invited to ride judge over 2 days, such an honour and although Thursday it tipped it down with rain all day Friday was glorious, we then were back Saturday competing. Win or lose I can't help thinking how fortunate we are to be able to attend such a fantastic show. Sitting in the sun with the Castle as a backdrop was amazing, with the horse and carriage drivers going past you. Where else in the world could you have such a scene - we are truly blessed to have a monarch who so loves horses and supports this tremendous show.

Interesting thread - i would call Miffed off thread (possibly a stronger word for miffed). Showing, is showing - up one day down the next, take the rough with the smooth. But you do get a bit miffed, when its:- 1. the steward doing the judging not the judge ! 2. the winner is great friends of the judge ! 3. the judge is not qualified to judge the class, its judging... 4. the class is won by a producer, just because its a well known producer (and is leading a bent leg pony) 5. you finally get to grips with facebook, and then you find out the winner of your class is regular contact with the said judge. 6. the class winner is on the show committee or has sponsored a class at said show .... 7. the list is endless People are not daft, they know roughly where they should be placed (and not looking through rose tinted glasses). So if somebody looks grumpy when leaving the ring, its possibly because they have paid their money (entry fee / diesel etc) and been judged by a numpty judge (not all judges are numpties, but you do tend to remember the numpty / face judging judges). We always say well done the people stood above us.... Saying all that, we will be out next week and the week after that, and the week after that !!! On a serious note most judges, judge for the love of breed and to preserve the breed standards and its only a handful of judges (in my opinion) give judges a bad name.... Vent over and tin hat firmly in place
