A lot of practice at home. I always start with a hedge or a fence line to practice our lines. If the horse has a tendency to lollop like a camel I stick a roller and some loose side reins just so they learn not to stick neck out. But most horses ready for showing know how to carry theirselves anyway. So I like to get a positive walk out of them, keep them concentrating on you and voice commands and it's a better picture them listening to your voice then you dragging for walk and trot. Once you have this start with trot. You want them to be at your pace in theory but you also want them to show off their pace to their best ability. My big lad I do have to run a little faster but he doesn't pull he knows my limits. Then the standing you want square. This could take as much practice as the walk and trotting. You will gauge of its a step back or forward to you need to get them straight and square. Don't pick grass or sand off the floor for attention that's a pet hate of mine looks un prepared. Stand in front of your horse till the judge wants to see front conformation. Remember to walk away a fair distance from the judge and when you turn so not start trotting till your on the straight back to the judge so you don't Un balance the horse. And trot straight back at the judge.
Sorry for the blabbing. Lots and lots of practice. I do hours every year even though all line are savvy at it. It pays off. Be smart yourself it's the whole picture. Correct head gear for the horse also.
Good luck

Lots of great tips thanks x i was on about about getting them ready condition wise (sorry I was not clear enough in my post) Do you keep them rugged/hooded/ and stabled with lots of walking out in hand as opposed to turning them out etc Jenna

All ours go in the field every day, if we kept them in for any length of time before a show they would be lunatics. You want them to behave and trot out nicely, not cantering and snorting on the end of the lead.

Sorry haha, all mine go out every day also, brushed for half an hour a day they all have cotton/silky lined rugs. A furminator is a great asset to grooming box. They only get Lycra when bathed and I always bath 2 days before a show to get shine back on before the show. No crazy regime just keep it normal. Key is grooming. No special feed either.
