My 15 year old daughter wants to help out (on a voluntary basis) at a friend's yard (livery/riding school) - as part of a sports leadership course she is doing at school. She only needs to do around 10 hours in total, although she may wish to do more. Due to her age, insurance companies don't seem to be happy for her to 'work' on such a yard. Can anyone suggest how we could get round this? Should I take out some sort of insurance for her myself and, if so, who with, etc etc? Many thanks in advance.

If you are already member of BHS, then you are covered for everything, if not then it's worth join them as they are cheaper than any other Insurance !

Can't her school offer some advice? The 'employer' may also need to have criminal checks etc as taking on a minor.

Could this 'work' be classed as work experience rather than 'working' in the usual paid sense? I would check with her school and get information from them regarding work experience there is usually a co-ordinator for work experience who should be able to help or at least point you in the right direction.

Thanks, everyone - I've now paid for her to have gold BHS membership.
