Just wanted some opinions of what people think of this situation?
I am a younger rider, and have been bringing on a younger horse for a good while now, who is a quirky horse and has taken a lot of patience and hard work to get them where they are now, which I have put into them. I have competed the horse regularly, attended various clinics, training days etc with the horse and built up a real relationship. I was very please that we had appeared to have turned a corner ready for this season, and was looking forward to see where it would take us. Then more recently, I have noticed the owner has been stopping me doing certain things so that they can do them with the horse. The owner was before I schooled said horse, unable to ride them at all as they were too much, and I have always been lead to believe I am able to compete the horse as I please if i put all the schooling in. It just feels now as though they have lied to me and they actually wanted me to bring the horse on enough for them to be able to compete together, which would have been okay i suppose, if that was the understanding from the outset. I have had many opportunities to compete other horses, (SJ, BE, WHP) which I have turned down as i am so fond of this horse and scared of offending the owner, an loosing the ride. I have also schooled the owners other horse, and got them back out competing again, and have just started to bring a third of their horses into work. Non of this has been a paid position, and I have paid all my own entries. I also work on a yard riding , competing and schooling ponies so this is what has made me realise how much I do for this person, who can be difficult to deal with too!
My mum, and other horsey friends have told me maybe I should move on, but it is hard when you have put so much into a horse to just let go...
