Hi, am writing next blog on ringside baskets. Would love to hear from everyone about what they have in theirs! Any quirky essentials you want to share! Was at Three Counties yesterday and saw some lovely examples. Top of the list - Polos, followed by Baby Wipes. Let me know, no detail too trivial.

Wine --- followed by brush , wet wipes, chalk, fly spray, car key !!![/quote thank you! does wine double as a stain remover or is it purely medicinal? am always suspicious of the bottles of 'water' tucked into baskets. have often wished i had packed the gin.

oh its purely for the horse ,,, works as a relaxant ,,, rubbed on of course ,,,, white wine for greys , Rose for chestnuts , and red for bays ,,,,i think Gin would be good as a hoof polish ,,, however cider is good for the handler in small doses ,,, of an appropriate age of course ,,,, but it does have a diauretic effect , hence the small amount

Love it!! I want to stand by fanfarefan!! When Chloe used to ride for a very famous show pony family (no names mentioned but most people will recognise them!!) the basket was: cloth; scissors (one daughter never without at least 2 pairs tucked into boots!!!) - wine; glasses; more wine and then more wine just in case!!!! Best days of my life always had fun! and the most popular people! Note daughter now buys me baskets that somehow do not carry wine bottles!

Always a hole punch for those short legged ride judges Cloth to shake at trot up! Gin and tonic in a water bottle! Hole punch is a good one. Do you mentally measure up the ride judge from the ringside and punch extra holes accordingly before you go in? or wait until in the ring when it becomes a bit more pointed! Judge "Are you suggesting I have abnormally short legs?"

I might have been known to have to punch holes whilst the judge was on board....
I now have short stirrups, I ride on hole two which leaves plenty of holes above! - but always have a hole punch in case!!

Good idea Julie but no person with scissors is a formidable tail trimmer!! Jockey's hair probably as well! Also on the short stirrup issue - as daughter is on the short side and a ride judge that is good news - I remember she said that at one of her first judging appointments she heard murmers all down the line ' oh she is short isn't she!' and mass twisting of leathers!

Mum now refuses to bring the basket to the ring as it's too precarious to balance on my youngest's pushchair lol. So whatever fits under the pushchair, normally just baby wipes, brush, cloth, polo's for Powder Puff, toys & food based bribery for my youngest, plus Capri Sun juices for Madds (they are a show essential apparently!) I will be suggesting the Gin though, other peoples baskets sound much better!

I always have a portable dog drinking bowl and a bottle of water so Jack can have a drink,(especially on a hot day) The photographer at Cheshire thought it was hilarious last year
