So yesterday at a show I did a class with very little warm up as entered the minute they started calling in! my horse was absolutely fine and worked lovely although felt he needed just a tiny bit more power, I went back to the lorry where he spotted some horses playing polo in a further away field, no where near us and behind a hedge! ever since he saw those he was unsettled for the rest of the day he really sweated up from his saddle all over his neck and chest and it was dripping off him! he kept pooing every 2 seconds and weeing small bits constantly it was all really unlike him and he never does this at shows, could it of been the polo lot unsettled him or did he have to much energy as I did bring him a tiny lunch to try give him some energy being there all day (as usually becomes sluggish come our class in the afternoon)

Could he have some unpleasant memories in the past of polo?

If he has hunted in the past the horses behind a hedge could have caused him to react like this.

If he has hunted in the past the horses behind a hedge could have caused him to react like this. Ahh - that brings back memories ! I had a highland who was very unenthusiastic about showing so we took him hunting a few times in the hope it would perk him up . He loved the hunting but it did nothing to improve his performance in the ring UNTIL .... we went to a show which was adjacent to some kennels . The pony was his usual obstinate backed off self until the dogs suddenly kicked off and started barking and howling like a pack of wolves . Result !! The ponies head and tail came up , ears pricked until they nearly met in the middle and we went round that ring like Totillas on acid .1st , Best of Breed ,Ridden Champion ,Supreme . And he was still looking for hounds when we put him back in the wagon . Could someone design a site that tells you where you can find shows that are next to kennels please ?
