Wound

My new ex racehorse has been doing really well with his retraining. On the eve of his first show he came in with an awful cut to the inside of his hock. It seems he had kicked out at electric fencing and got it stuck round his leg. I bandaged for the first week and box rest and used intrasite gel and manuka honey. Vet came a couple of days ago to check the wound was ok and gave me a new gel to use called vulcatran.....has anyone any experience of using this? I'm gutted as he had the makings of a great show horse.

Vulcatan is used to prevent proud flesh forming over the wound. It is brilliant stuff! It won't matter for showing but it has an 8 day withdrawal period for anything run under FEI or Jockey Club rules.

I took the OP to mean that they were worried about scarring affecting future showing with the animal, but just to note that under BSPS rule 63(d) their list of prohibited substances is taken from those published by the FEI
