We have one who doesn't like to drink when we're at shows. I've started adding apple juice to the water and I can now get him to have a drink, otherwise he's been known to go all day and drink as soon as he's back home which can't be good for him.

Get him used to drinking it at home with something in first if you're going down that route, or maybe a feed of very sloppy soaked sugarbeet would tempt him? You're right, it's much healthier for him if you can help him keep hydrated, especially in this hot weather.

Good suggestions above.
Additionally, buy a lump of natural Himalayan Rock salt (NAF sell it, it's available at any decent feed store). Can either be hung in the stable/on a sound fence (comes complete with a convenient bit of rope) or simply put it in his manger - so he can go to it and lick it whenever he wants.
This multi-tasking, convenient stress buster introduces salt to his taste buds and to his diet without putting him off eating or drinking.
Crucially, intake of salt (which is vital in a diet anyway) will encourage him to drink more.

ours generally prefer water that has stood for 24hrs , we can only assume that there maybe chemicals in it that they dont like the taste of ,,, nothing that we can detect , and we drink the same water , so it completely safe

Do you take your home water for him? He may prefer what he's used to and dislike it from another source.

Peppermint tea. I had a very poorly pony and needed to get extra fluid down her she would glug pints down even if she had a full fresh bucket of water. Just made it very strong in the bottom of the bucket (4-6 tea bags) added a bit of sugar and electrolyte added water to cool and offered it.

I have one who wont drink his water in his stable, or very little water in the stable. Then he will go out and drink loads out of his trough, so I tried using the water in the trough for his water bucket in his stable, and he still wont drink it, he won a salt lick somewhere so put that in his stable and he doesnt like it! Do just buy the average normal apple juice, sainsburys own?

Soak his hay when travelling to shows - at least they take in lots of water with the food! Mine isn't keen on drinking at shows, but with soaked hay, doesn't drink any extra when he gets home - just the usual amount over night!

You add it to the water a bit of sugar has to be better than a dehydrated pony. I carry small packs of it on the lorry to use at shows when it is hot as my pony won't always drink.

I have a difficulty drinker too! He will never drink in his field and used to rarely drink at shows. I always take the same bucket to shows and found putting a table spoon of molasses in works a treat! I also make his hard feeds very wet just to get a little bit more water into him.
