I was judging at a local show yesterday (yes I was soaked through) and I came across a cob wearing a Sam Marsh Pelham, he went well in it although could have been a bit more forward, I have done some research on this bit today, seems to be varying views, what is the school of thought on these just as a matter of interest

Seem to be quite common in show cob classes as they are for strong horses

You do seem to see these a lot in show cob classes and the majority go well - hunters they are "discouraged" along with Swales and check gag. Its an interesting question because I had a heavyweight hunter who went beautifully in a check gag but under certain rules that can't be used. But for him it was the combo he was happiest in.
This is where biting gets quirky.... every horse is different!
