We had a puppy (collie lurcher, someone else's mistake not a pedigree) who came with one at 7 weeks old. Not quite the same I know but she went occasionally slightly lame which was proved to be mechanical rather than pain. She's now almost 14yo and it's caught up with her in terms of giving her a stiff back for which she has monthly acupuncture so she hasn't done badly. But I'd have a word with your vet, dogs only have to move themselves and aren't expected to work, well this one wasn't.

unless you know that your yearling has suffered an injury it sounds like a conformation fault, there will be nothing that a vet can do about this
