Very like 'Toasters' post the other week this is a reminder to myself and possible other folk that small steps are sometimes the proudest ones. Our young boy had his first ridden show today:
He burst out of the wagon, with a 'Oh my gawd I'm at a proper party' attitude, which incidentally reminded me very much of my two eldest boys reaching 18 and legally entering a pub - pretty embarrassing!
We/I/ my daughter decided not to lunge him, but JUST GET STRAIGHT ON! - first bronk of the day and scored highly for a) rider staying on b) horse not actually trying to get her off
Rain poured down = Lots of miserable looking horses, but oh no not our boy he refused to be deflated and did a weird kind of rain dance/ piaffe
Class begins and he thoroughly enjoys the go around, following others and feeling part of the gang
Pulled in 5th out of 12...whoop whoop!!
But knew we wouldnt stay there
The individual show threw him just slightly ....the judge asked them to walk away (yep he can do that) then trot back in a straight line (nope not possible - requires concentration, balance and focus)
Then into the set show side of things - I swear I couldnt watch!! I knew this would be too much for him and far too exciting, anyway he tried. He wrong legged the first canter - gawd knows how seeing as he was practically leaning horizontally into the correct bend - but then decided to show off his flying change routine....3 times
The trot work was ok, wiggly, but ok
The halt/salute was epic...willlly out and proud
My daughter grinned the whole way round, no rosette but she was thrilled he did it and saw all the above as ''things we can sort out''
Me...so proud of the pair of them! He was only cut last year, hes a big daft toddler with the attention span of a gold fish but we love this lad, hes been diffcult, challenging, funny, and infuriating! But one dayyyyyy it'l all come together and it'l be OUR doing.....
